I agree with Jean. I would use a very well draining mix. I use EB Stone's Cactus Mix, but there is also a good recipe on our forum to "511" mix or "gritty" mix that you can search out. Definitely needs to be repotted, and the roots straightened out if you see they're circling in this small pot. Also, I would consider switching fertilizers. 4 fertilizer applications a year for a container citrus is not nearly enough. Fine for in-ground citrus, but not for container citrus. I would consider using Dyna Gro's Foliage Pro, and use 1/2 strength with every watering. And, I would also supplement with Osmocote Plus (it must be the "Plus" formulation so you have the best NPK ratio along with all the micros, very important). Your tree is in bad shape. I would expect after re-potting and correct fertilizing and watering that you'll see these old leaves drop, pushed out with new flush. Patty S.

Cece. I'm not sure your lemon has insects..the holes are pretty large for most plant bugs, at least bugs I'm familiar with. What state are you in? And what state was your tree purchased from? I'm in IL, and during summer when citrus go outdoors, flying bugs come fluttering by..every so often, they nibble leaves, but by autumn all signs of insects are gone. The bad thing is they leave holes, the good thing is bugs die in days, and do not linger and kill like plant pests. To be on the safe side, inspect for bugs. Scale, Mealy, Spider Mite, Aphids, Leaf Miner..I'm not sure I covered them all, but those mentioned are insects to worry about. Normally, when insects attack, they leave signs. Yellow and/or sticky leaves, webbing, brown or white bumps, white cottony patches. I notice most rips are on the edges of leaves..Is it possible something is rubbing up against your tree? Human or animal? By the size of the tree, it'd have to be one animal..When a leaf rips it commonly browns. For starters, hose off your lemon..if you have a sprayer, add a 2-4 drops of liquid dish soap. (Not Dawn) But before spraying, check for signs of pests. If you spot any signs of plant insects, you can treat according to bug. As for flowering/fruiting, when a plant is stressed, it sometimes halts production..Actually, until you find out what's causing the problem, lack of fruits might be best. Flowering/fruiting takes energy. Toni

How about this, I went out and checked on the tree after 4 days of tons of rain and all of the leaves are normal. Must have been the lack of nitrogen. The rain must have washed in the fertilizer spikes I put down two weeks ago. This is relief as I though I was going to have to write the tree off.

Hi, new here and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the problem we're experiencing with our young peach tree. The tree has been in the ground for about 18 months now. We're in Austin Tx where the weather has become very hot and humid this past month. We had a ton of rainfall back in late May through June. The leaves are turning yellow and appear to be burning at the tips - not sure if that's an accurate assessment - pic below shows progression from left to right. There does not appear to be any reddish tint to indicate nitrogen deficiency but we are seeing some brown spots on the younger green stems. We are also seeing the same issue on a small cherry tree nearby. Just not sure if this is a deficiency or bacterial disease, any help/clues would be most appreciated.
