Mango Flies
Comments (1)Not sure about the flies but significant fruit drop is normal. Citrus is the same way. A good general bug trap is a white cardboard with vasaline smeared on it. Hang from a short string. Also try smearing a little of the fallen fruit on the center of the card to act as an attractant. Change the card every few days as they dry out....See MorePlease help, tomato plants dropping like flies

Comments (1)Im so sorry to hear this....it has been a TERRIBLE year for the TRES. If you look through the last few pages here you will see that many were lost. I lost 3 babies, the I am SO sad thread. Just one of many posts reporting lost TRES. The National Wildlife magazine april/may edition has an article titled Empty Skies Insect-eating birds that feed on the wing are vanishing from parts of North America and scientists dont know why. In my case I know it had to do with losing 1 of the parents leaving just one to feed 6 babies in horrid weather. I think most of the sad reports on here are weather related. I have not seen any attempt at a second nesting here but it has only been six days and 3 babies did fledge. There is one report of a second nesting on the forum so far this year. Good luck with yours!...See MoreFruit Flies!!!!!!!!
Comments (3)My sympathies! We had an infestation this fall. Are the apples outside now I hope? I'd use a combo approach, including your trap (which may work even better if you also have a larger transparent dome set up high over the top half of the glass since then the ones that try to fly out get trapped under the dome) and also vacuuming up as many as possible. Would old-fashioned hanging fly paper help? Is it warm enough to open windows on sunny days so they fly out or at least to the screen to be vacuumed up? You'll need to empty out the vacuum bag or set the vacuum outside in the garage or garden shed when not in use, however....See Moredavidrt28 (zone 7)
