Seil, you are the reason I have ordered Angel Face. The photos of yours are just wonderful! You say yours is very hardy, thus can I expect little cane dieback? The space I have it planned for gets quite windy. Secondly, I will definitely need to find a new place for Memorial Day if it gets 6-8 feet so I am glad you mentioned it. Also, I was under the impression that Cherry Parfait and Fire & Ice are the same rose (HMF has the names linked I believe). Are the two you mention very different? I currently have Fire & Ice ordered and I see Regan lists them seperately. Odd. Thank you for the tip of Dublin Bay! I might plant a low one in front of it to cover the bottom. Kate, Regarding my list, I am sure I will be on here complaining after spring planting but the catalogs kept on coming! Thankfully I started digging holes in the fall and got through some, now just need to watch the dogs out in the yard with the snow cover so they don't accidently fall in! Thank you for the thorn tip on Elina, will need to stick her in the back so I can prune things in front without getting stuck. Also glad you mentioned WS2000 - I definitely did not have it planned for a 6ft wide spot! Doodles, I tried to stagger all of my deliveries (I have ordered from Palatine, Regan, DA, Chamblees, RVR, Heirloom, and RU) and pretty much don't plan on sleeping, eating, or bathing until I am done (although if this goes like my 2013 resolution, I am in trouble..). You and I both have a lot of work to do! Michael, I was way off for Tess. I assumed the HMF listing of 3'-8' would mean it would be closer to 3' in my zone so it definitely gets moved! Thank you! I was spacing 36" on average so most of these plans should work Lsst, when you say C.Marlowe has a delicate look does that mean you would suggest moving it toward the front of a bed to enjoy it versus further back? agility_mom - You are one of the ones I wanna chat with :) I love Austins, I love the bloom form, the colors, the way they open etc... What I don't love though is the arching bush shape, so I'm so pleased that he is trying to give me my blooms on more compact plants... It's very hard looking at pictures of just the bloom to know which ones to choose without ordering 20 bareroots and just waiting to see who turns out to be a winner... For example, one of my favorites was Tamora... love the color, love the compact bush. Didn't care about the fragrance, and with only 70 petals, I wouldn't mind a bit extra... and I was crying inside to let her go from my no spray garden with her little black polka-dots... So Tamora is listed as an apricot blend. Personally I thought it was more of an orange pink blend, especially compared with some of his other apricots, but he doesn't use the orange-pink color designation, so it makes it hard to know exactly which of his new roses are closest in color to Tamora. So according to DA, the newer apricots are: William Morris Crown Princess Margareta Grace Carding Mill Tea Clipper The Shepherdess So 6 to choose from... The Shepherdess is supposed to be the shortest of these, but who knows? and which of these is more pink than yellow? So the question of which of these apricots (or other Austins that are orange pink and called pink blend) is most like the original Tamora is impossible for someone who hasn't seen all of the new specimens to know... I'm going to start individual threads about the different colors, but my question for you is out of the newer Austins, which are the most compact growers... and which are you falling in love with? Beth, my PAoK is pretty much a solid medium pink similar to the picture from mustbnuts. It compares well with the picture in DA's catalog. I am wondering if what you have might be Gentle Hermione. Yours is similar to the Gentle Hermione picture in the DA catalog, but it is quite difficult to tell because the leaves are a bit different. Neither PAoK or Gentle Hermione show any yellow on the backside of the petals which makes me wonder what nanadollZ7 has because that coloring is more like The Endeavor which I also have. It is a variable pink color, but it is a bicolor with pinkish top and yellow reverse. I know colors and flower forms vary greatly with climate, time of year, and location so it is not always easy to tell. Here is a picture of my PAoK still in its pot.

I only grow PAoK and Charlotte from your list. We are hot & humid with blackspot being the fungal issue here rather than PM, so can’t comment on that. PAoK is on the chopping block due to defoliation after spring flush from BS. Looking back, I only have pictures from April & May each year. Even though one is from this spring, I honestly don’t remember her blooms ever looking as pretty as they do in these pictures. I seem to recall her sometimes showing salmon coloring like Desert Garden posted about, but have no pictures of that….probably because she has defoliated by the time salmon hues appear. So far, I haven’t replaced the rose because it takes up so little space with its wimpy three or four leafless canes, but will probably remove her this fall. I’ve read posts about how large the rose gets, but that’s not the case here…maybe due to competition with my vigorous Scepter’d Isle next to her or maybe due to her fungal issues. PAoK this spring (with some Scepter'd Isle blooms behind and to the right) and last spring: Charlotte gives me steady blooms throughout the summer heat. With hard deadheading, I can keep her 4 to 5 ft tall by about 3 to 4 ft wide. Blackspots some, but not too badly with occasional spraying and doesn’t defoliate from it. Only mild to medium fragrance to my nose and usually a pale, creamy yellow fading quickly to almost white in the heat. This is the strongest coloring I ever see from Charlotte, and it is rare: This is Charlotte's normal coloring here (a very photogenic rose):
