Kordes rose - Cinderella Fairy Tale
Comments (2)I have 2 CFT roses planted in pots and both of them turned out to be a climber. I've got them last year in June as barerooted, and now they've reached the height of our french doors. I'm thinking of getting rid of them. Don't get me wrong, the flowers do look pretty and the leaves are healthy, leathery and dark green - but I just couldn't smell anything. Well, the scent is very mild apple - nothing exciting to rave about. Secondly, the thorns are sharp, and I keep getting several scratches on my hands and face. Maybe if I have a large backyard I might keep both of them...see how it goes. Perhaps I'll give them another year....See MoreDo you grow any of these and what can you tell me about them pls?
Comments (8)We grew "Lundy Lane" and I found it to be a very lovely mostly-yellow Pernetiana. Its' foliage is a very light-medium green, and very attractive. One caveat: of all the Pernetiana roses I've grown it suffered the most badly from blackspot. I have an organic rose garden and never sprayed it with anything other than Cornell. It continued to bloom c. 3 weeks later in Autumn than my other Pernetiana roses, which also endeared it to me. For comparison, these are healthier Pernetiana roses for our area, near Oakland, California. I never needed to spray theses with anything: "Duquesa de Penaranda" the healthiest of all Pernetiana roses in our area. The climbing form is fantastic!!! "Soliel d'Or" "President Herbert Hoover" the most fragrant of the Pernetiana roses to my nose. "Gruss an Coberg" "Mari Dot" a fabulous Dot rose but very small on her own roots, I'd love it on rootstock. Luxrosa...See MoreSavannah Kordes hybrid tea anyone growing?
Comments (28)I have only been a serious “rosarian” for three years but it has quickly tuned into an obsession! I only purchase Kordes roses because of their fragrance and beauty_ also pre- Covid 19, Lowe’s sold them . Unfortunately, 4 of my Summer Romance contracted RRD and had to be destroyed 😔. I bought these from Lowe’s, but my neighbor’s Knock Out roses had RRD and I suspect the wind transferred the mite to my roses. As to the Kordes Savannah, I purchased three Kordes rose bushes at Lowe’s, and although they were ticketed as Plum Perfect, the roses on the bushes were pink. I finally decided that they were mis- labeled. I’m not sure how I arrived at the conclusion that they were Kordes Savannah, probably from comparison of pictures on line. My Savannah’s have been constant and prolific bloomers for the last two years and their fragrance is divine. They are definitely pink and I see no apricot tones on mine. I have attached two photos. If these aren’t Savannah, I would appreciate a heads up. Also attached a photo of a Summer Romance bush in full bloom....See MoreAnyone grow Kordes, Bordeaux?
Comments (8)I grow Bordeaux and it is a good rose. No disease and blooms well. It grows to about 3 feet in my PNW garden. The petals are wavy on the edges. The red colour is an unusual shade in my garden. so Bordeaux was a good name for it. I have had Ingrid Bergman, but she is now very old for a rose and has problems from being in commerce for so long. Her claim to fame was the size of her flowers, which at that time were large. And she was also a good rose. But nowadays there are better reds. Gardeners mainly grow very old roses because they create a memory for them....See Morekarenforroses
