I have bought a camera - onwards and upwards

Over the last few years, various friends and family have attempted to educate me into the joy of taking and saving pictures. This has usually been fruitless, not only because I am a dimwit but because I have been given a selection of ever so slightly duff cameras, all missing instructions. A mix of press-ganging my offspring to take photos for me or getting them to explain the process, has also proved to be a lost cause. Finally, I have managed to conquor my inner cheapskate - bought a little Nikon (daughter assures me an 'idiot' can use it).

Will have to wait till daylight (squinting at minuscule instructions - not to be defeated at first hurdle) but I swear, I definately promise a tour of an english allotment. Roses are a bit scarce at present but my peas and potatoes are to die for.

Sometimes it just pays to stay up late and read the forum! Who cares if you're tired the next day? The hosta will forgive you if you get outdoors later in the morning, right? Mocc, you always say the kindest things.... glad you enjoyed the pics...then you had me laughing out loud about the comment re the bees standing on their heads trying to get at the uplifted flowers! LOL. That is just so funny trying to visualize that!...before that the turkeys...ahhh, so good to hear from you, thank you!!! YES, the hiding flowerscape on The Shining! It never got taller? Bummer...kind of hard to admire it when it's that shy! Lol. There are a couple more "shorties" around here too, like one last year...all weather related, methinks. Weird. S&S has one last scape on it (I removed the spent ones already) that is so short, it looks like I just put it there instead of it growing out of the plant. Odd but I will post a pic to show you all. It may be a short scape but the flowers are nothing to sneeze at. They are beautifully large. Thanks for the recall re Holy Mouse Ears - of course, it makes sense, doesn't it? Poor Baby Bunting is another forced one and is barely hanging on but I am determined that it makes it...although it's a day to day survival for the poor little thing...it's no bigger than a dime!...well, maybe a nickel.. Same goes for the gold sport of Frances Williams, 'Golden Sunburst'.... It put out those late shoots last fall, remember? This year the leaves are half their size..hard to believe it is the same plant. Used up too much energy last fall and petered itself out, didn't it? I hope it fares better next spring. It has been a very interesting growing season so far, and I'm sure there's more surprises/oddities before we are done for the season :-) Here's shorty-puff on S&S, lol

Glenda, I was at Sam's Club a few weeks ago lookimg at camera lenses. Another customer was asking me about the difference in cameras. I explained to her the little bit I know about them and started helping her search for one that would be the best and easiest to use. They were all so similar and in a fairly close price range. I think almost all of today's cameras are pretty good quality for a reasonable price. I realize there are some high dollar cameras out there, but I was referring to the majority of point and shoot cameras. I hope you like yours and take plenty of pictures to share with us. Okay Its the camera that Iowagirl2006 said.It came with rechargeable batteries.We got it at walmart and the girl that waited on us said she had it and loved it.She said the batteries lasts along time since it was rechargeable.Also she has 2 weeks to take it back if she does not like it.She is going to day and take some flower pics and than go get her dogs and flower pics printed out to see how well they turn out.I was going to buy me a new digital one but am waiting to see how Ash's pics turn out.Thanks so so much for all who answer my post.I truly apprecaite your time.Also we got recharger.Also the lady said it was a step up from the one that was on display.Not sure what was on display other than it was a Kodak.Ashley was looking at them and asked if they had the one on display.The lady looked and said we do not have the camera on display no longer because we want be carrying it no longer.She than pulled this one out and said this is the next one,a step up from the one you wanted.It might have been on sale.The lady said it was a good price for the camera. I perfer Canon.I have a very good digital Canon Digital camera.Greg had gotten Ashley a good Canon flim Camera.he paid right at 800.00 for it.Ashley is very good in taking pics.She has made some great pics using the Canon Camera,blowed them up.I have several framed in my home of a Sunflower,old homes,lakes,birds,animals.She made a pic of a old barn and had it blowed up,gave to someone.They loved it.I have to brag even though she is my daughter but she is so good at this.She was going to go to school to study Photograph but she choice Grooming school.But greg told her she still could do pictures on the side.Someone asked her to take pics of a wedding.But she was not off.Hope I have answer some of the questions.I am not very smart about cameras.Sorry.

LOL.. yep, his hair started thinning out in highschool. he came home from college one weekend completely bald! lol The guys told him if he went and shaved his head, they'd let him buy back in to the poker game for free! (he is a lousy poker player still lol) So he did. He was thinking about shaving anyways. the photos are very clear...

it is never straightforward, technology, is it? Everything installed and even a picture taken but either I am poking the connection in the wrong port (horrid messages flashing up saying hardware incompatibility) or summat else unthinkable. Also had to send off for memory card if I want to take more than 4 pics. Waiting for less technically challenged offspring (who are agile enough to grovel around at the back of the antiquated PC under my desk). Gah! I promise, this is not just a tease.
Ingrid, have noticed a distinct coyness when it comes to posting personal pics - we are all quite happy to reveal our gardens, our pets and even our friends and relatives yet I cannot think of a single photo of an actual gardenweb contributor. So, I also promise to include one of myself, in all my toothless and plump glory (specially since the no eating icecream diet is apparently working).

yeah, well the camera works but my PC is such a crock that it simply fails to register the hardware (see, I know the lingo, even if I have not a clue what any of it means). So, having had to cough up for a new bike wheel after one of the offspring's 'borrowing' japes, there is no chance of renewing any part of the PC for the forseeable future (Mr Camps has done his back in as well so I am trying (and failing) to keep up our work committments too. Will probably have to nag number 1 son to bastardise one of his old PC's (again, I have never even sniffed a new PC in my life!). This always takes forever because nobody likes to bodge. Forced to hang my head after all the build-up. Will silently just do it (photos) next time (if, of course, that ever happens).

Is there a disk that came with your camera? Or is there a little box that pops up when you plug in the cord to the PC?

yep, did all the installing. Eldest says he needs to update summat (switched off at that point and almost ate a biscuit).
I will twist the parental screw/aged mother routine till he gets round to fixing it. Shouldn't take long as the eldest is also the softest and most naggable - as well as the most competent: I would trust my aged collie to sort it out more than my other two and Mr Camps is the worst of all.

It's too bad that your granddaughter isn't a few years older. Grandchildren rapidly become more computer proficient that their grandparents and respond much better to a grandmother's begging than do children. That's how someone as technologically dumb as I am finally got some garden photos! Diane

ah yep, I raced about taking pics (at least 100) like an excited child. Just waiting on favoured son to get his act together and sort my PC out. I truly hope this is the last hurdle - I might even start (gasp) blogging.

Then again, I might also grow a third set of shiny new teeth.

Can you take your camera into a print shop and have it downloaded to a CD or memory stick?

Its hard work keeping up with all the new technology! I forgot my camera on a recent trip out with a planned stop at the dahlia test gardens. I wanted to share pics of the dahlias being tested with my dahlia group. Son took his iPad over and photographed them all for me, and gave them to me on a memory stick which I was able to download into my laptop.

I'm so glad he travels everywheres with his iPad!
