Very excited about Heirloom's sale

I've been wanting a David Austin rose, Pretty Jessica, for a long time--almost got it before but decided on Sister Elizabeth.

Well, I just ordered it for half off along with Happy Child, a rose my wife saw at the Atlanta Rose show and liked.

I know it's 90+ degrees and it's an awful time to order more plants but with the sale and them having the rose I've been wanting, I just had to make a small purchase.

I hope these do as well for me as they seem to do for others.

thanks for the heads up - seems to me Pretty Jessica has been hard to find.

It looks as if the web site has had a bit too much traffic. When I try to access the site, I get an 'Account Suspended' message.

Yay! Yes, I went and what a great time. Just love going and seeing all of roses at a cheaper price. Only wish that I had gone first thing this morning for better selection. Oh, and I can never get out of there without buying a couple at regular price. I bought an Austin, Happy Child to place in a container and the Impressionist which I was most excited about. This is their top selling Clements rose and it is much like an Austin, fragrant and gorgeous. Didn't think that it would be in the 1/2 offers. My husband came with me and he was trying to be Mister Macho telling me that he didn't really have much input about the rose garden (when we arrived there were more women there). . .blah, blah, blah--when all of sudden he spots a beautiful Eden (Pierre de Ronsard) growing on an archway. Next thing I know he's in the rose house picking the best one he could find at full price. It is a beautiful rose, so much more attractive than its pictures. One thing that I didn't know about Heirloom is that they have a lot more roses for sale than are in their catalog. I have been researching roses that do well in rain and someone told me about Rosarium Uetersen and I hadn't been able to locate it. Heirloom had some!! Have to go back and really go through everything -- take my time. Then I'll be even more broke and have to find more room in my garden for roses. CJ

sunnishine - Francis Dubreuil was a "he", not a "she". He was the rose breeder that first hired Antoine Meilland (Papa Meilland) to work with roses when Antoine was just 16. Antoine ended up marrying Francis' only daughter, Claudia, making Francis the grandparent to the son of Antoine and Claudia, who was also named Francis. The younger Francis' other grandparent (Antoine Meilland's mother) was Grand'mÃ¨re Jenny, which also happens to be a lovely HT rose from 1950. Francis Meilland was the breeder of "Peace". Thank you so much docmom for basically holding my hand so far! lol i watered the seed trays in the greenhouse today :) there was condensation and some seemed dried out a little...and omg, i bought like 3 or 4 books on seed saving and seed planting different seeds. the one contains info on planting alot of different varieties and care on each plant and i keep it close with me when new seeds arrive!! I also can not wait to attempt to save more varieties this year and have much more to offer in fall if all goes right!! I've also informed several family members, if this all goes good, i might have extras to give away. also might do some flemarket or yarden sales in the future...I really love gardening and I'm so glad I am taking time to do a hobby that I love so much again! I would love to find a job in gardening in the future or just to sell a few plants at fleamarkets and stuff. The garden is fun but it's also more enjoyable when you have people ooo and ahhhh over your plants and are asking you questions or ideas. :) : ) :) Thank you so much! ~michael P.S. I agree that jewelry, doll and china collection must be looked at by a professional. You never know, after watching those "Antique Road Shows", what treasures you might find - just because they dont make things anymore like they used to. IF they are worth good chunk, sell it and put the money into her funds. You never know what disaster will strike and what SHE will need. Money is like water, and She is still alive. You all have your own families and houses to take care of. Dont waste her money on storage. Sell it now and then sell the house. I also agree that if anyone has any sentimental feeling or wants to have something from her things, let them take and keep - years later you will regret just selling it to strangers. Just apply the same rules to all - either all take 1-2 items for free as memory, or all pay fare value. My husband's grandpa just gifted me his mother's (great grandma for my husband) chain watch, it was all broken, not working, I spent $80 to repair it, and it is worth maybe $80-100. BUT it has her name and date that it was gifted, etc. so it is a part of family history and I am the only female in the family who is interested in keeping it. Re the family issue - I do agree that you as parents need to set example to your kids - get them out of the picture and discussion until three siblings agree on what to do, and clarify what legal role your brother plays. What a shame that they dont go to see grandma but got their eyes set on the STUFF. And please, if all argument is about $10 desk, have the kid pay for it. Teach them to earn things just like grandma did. Teach them lessons now, even though it maybe too late if they are grown up as you describe them.

jaqueline, I bought a Pretty Jessica from Longago roses this spring. Reasonable prices and an all around pleasure to do business with that nursery. They seem to sell out fairly quickly, I wasn't quick enough to buy St. Cecelia, but they might have it next year.

A lot of Heirloom's roses seem to be sold out already so it would be a good idea to order a rose you want rather quickly while it's still available.

gardenatlanta, just want to let you know that I got 'Pretty Jessica' from Heirloom Roses two years ago and the rose is wonderful. I think you are in for a treat :-)!

I was very tempted to participate in the Heirloom Roses sale, too, but in the end didn't since my pot ghetto is still too large. Maybe next year again...

I sprang for 18 new roses ... some Austins I have had my eye on, a few miniatures for my new mini garden, and some odd floribundas that I couldn't resist. More residents for the pot ghetto for now.

Did you have to call to order and get the 50% off? Maybe it's just the varieties I'm looking at, but once I add them to my cart they are listed as full price...and I don't see a discount code?

I got the email, too, Jeff, so you can't take all the credit nor can I give you all the blame. :))

I got 4 Austins. I've gone gaga! Mary Rose and Graham Thomas that I have been longing for. Plus St. Swithun and Hyde Hall which are described as shade tolerant. I'm very excited, too, and hoping they're all extremely healthy. Did I say I'm excited? I can't wait!

By happy accident I found the sale. I have never ordered in the full heat of summer before. The bed for the 2 I ordered will not be dug till Fall. I will pot them up in full 6" nursery pots and put them in a place that will get only dappled sun in the heat of the afternoon. Will that do it. I ordered Lady Of The Mist and Summer Wine cl. The new bed is the 4' strip of land that runs between ours and the neighbors driveways. Summer Wine cl will be trained up the corner of our garage. The bed will be filled out with Dayliles and companion perennials. I know I will have to keep up with watering for that environment.
