Idaho purple robe locust trees

I have planted several Idaho purple robe locusts over the last few years. Beautiful trees when they bloom. The wind is sometimes posted at 40-50 mph. The trees survived for a couple of years, then suddenly they began to loose entire branches, usually in the middle (trunk). Today I lost another one only I found something inside the trunk. 2 yellow to orange worms that have bored out the inside of the trunk, but the tree never showed any signs of any thing being wrong. They only bored in the center of the tree as well. Perhaps that is why it never showed any tell-tale signs. Does anyone know what this is and what do I do?

Those worms sure are (were) ugly...........Thank You,
