i can't comment on high society..but be grateful they're not coming until next spring. i ordered 12 roses from them last december..you think that would have reserved them..out of the 12 ,i got 6 in the spring, nice roses...i was told the others were backordered until oct....they sent me 3 roses 2 weeks ago during a blazing hot spell, and they were puny to boot, only 2 small stems on each bare root..out of the 3, 2 aren't going to make it, and 1 is barely hanging in there. i didn't order anything from their sale, but did notice they're selling a rose that i had ordered and still haven't gotten..they will be hearing from me.i'm really disgusted with them, years past they've always sent premium stock. donna

That's rotten, Donna! Hey, their customer service has always replaced things very nicely for me... one of the reasons I still buy from them. Their bareroots were always huge. I hope you get a better deal... tell them to wait until spring for the replacements, and hopefully they will.

I'd better call them and tell them that it's just too late here until fall! I'd be mad as a hornet if they expect me to try it now, because the sale was a while ago that I ordered from. We're in the 90's so much now.

OTOH, it'll make me happy, as it turns out... locks in the price but they are fresh.

Still, they should tell a person when they order that it might be a year!

Yes, I will join that gripe, but not about JP whom I have not ordered from, but Wayside/Parks-when I order something on sale and they don't have it, why can't they say so instead of saying it's back ordered or it isn't shipping for 2 mos.? When you are out of something, you are OUT OF IT! It's okay to email me and say we're out of that and expect more by this date, do you want to cancel the order or wait? I would think that you would get fresher (relatively speaking) plants next spring. And March would be a good time for planting in your area, so that's not so bad. But, they charge when you order, not when they ship.

You made the mistake I did, you didn't look at the 'first shipping date'.

I ordered roses on sale and most of them came right away. However one, Abraham Darby, had a first ship date of March 2008.

That however is normal for J&P. They only ship in the spring into summer until they run out. I was lucky to get a replacement for one of the roses I got from them yesterday.

I did order 2 roses from Wayside on impulse and they haven't come yet. I am very annoyed at that. There was nothing to indicate they were not going to be shipped now.

Meredith, I see, missed the point here. I had the same thing happen with another plant vendor, took my money and sat on it and shipped much later. It was the only time that has happened to me. I don't think it's ethical. I'm not sure if it's even legal, otherwise everyone would be doing it.

My dad loves the idea, teka2rjleffel [he's a turnaround consultant]... sell lots of product and use a year's worth of sales to come up with some actual inventory ;]

Ah but if I knew I was reserving them for this price I would have this time.

I had seen posts that J&P was sold. We'll see how that changes things, I guess. This is a good test order for me, not too big. I've liked them as a vendor previously and would miss a small rose fix from them each year or two!

I agree that Wayside and Park would let you enter your order and then you would find out that the plant is unavailable. Either they have so many catalog items to update or just try to get your info for marketing purpose. I keep thinking of the later as IÂve got several Âsale emails from them already. My order last month was cancelled and I had to log into my customer account to find out as they didnÂt send a notice. In MeredithÂs case, J&P loves her so much as a customer that theyÂre willing to hold out the sale price until next spring, thinking sheÂll add a lot more to the ransom :)

HMMPH! I just emailed Wayside and NOW they tell me the roses are unavailable until next FALL! So I cancelled. I'll just have to get some other roses.....

roseleaf, too true... you know I'll add a couple, lol. Parks still hasn't notified me either about 3 things they left out of my order. Not good service that way! I keep all records and it goes fine but they should be apologetic and on top of things service-wise if you ask me.
