We just planted a gorgeous one called Cafe. Think it's a floribunda. We got it from Roses Unlimited. It is just as pretty as the photos on helpmefind.com. Very glad we got it!

How about "Irish Hope" for a cream? I love this whole idea. My front two flower beds are all apricot-peach colors but this would spice them up nicely! Are you going to include Hot Cocoa? I think it would really set it off nicely!

I throw in for Honey Dijon. Mine is new this year, but it is a vigorous, clean, healthy bloom machine, so far. Not quite like PJPII, but cranking them out on a regular basis.

Lion's-Rose, aka Lion's Fairy Tale, is cream-colored, just kissed with apricot on cool mornings. The blooms are like those of an English rose but it's a hardy shrub from Kordes. Nice foliage. Griffith Buck's Prairie Harvest is a light straw yellow that pales to a cream color, wonderfully fragrant. And the English rose Tamora would fit your color scheme, lots of blooms on a tidy little bush. I love your color scheme, should be really pretty!

French Lace is a beautiful cream-colored one I love, and Singin' In The Rain blooms well for me in interesting shades of bronze/copper.

petaloid...whoowee...I love that singin in the rain. As I type it's FINALLY raining a little here in GA. We've been getting precious LITTLE here lately. I love those tan and coppery looking ones. Such unusual shades for roses which is why i'm wanting to do a bed of them. Might end up having to do SEVERAL beds of em if I keep on getting such good suggestions! April

I love that idea of adding Hot Cocoa to your bed. It will definitely give it a little "pop".

I have a wonderful tan/russett climber named CL. Butterscotch that blooms alot and climbs very well for me. I got it a couple of years ago from Uncommon Rose just before they closed up shop. I am not sure where you could get one now though you might check Help Me Find and see if anyone is offering it for sale now.
I also have Honey Dijon which makes a big heavy blooming bush with lovely tan flowers. I used to grow Julia's Rose and Irish Cream but they didn't ever grow very vigorously and eventually just died away. I have Spiced Coffee on order for next Spring from Hortico if they still have some in stock. I hope they do.
Most of the time my Marilyn Monroe has a peachy tan tint to it especially in cooler weather so you might like it as well. It is a good growing rose and I have two of them because I liked it so well.

Hi April! I got your email, but I've just been so busy lately, I'll answer you here since you posted this thread about the tans and creams.

As many of you know, the "oddballs" are my favorites. There are many that stay a "tan" color, but many change like chameleons too... going from tan to mauve to yellows. The two very best "tans" are HONEY DIJON and IRISH CREAM. HD tho, can often get the more yellowish-mustardy color like its namesake. Both are excellent roses. CAFE is a really lovely one with old-fashioneed form, but it tends more towards the apricots and the blooms can get so heavy, they want to hang downwards. If you don't mind that, then it's also a good one. Cl BUTTERSCOTCH is the rose that started me on this oddball kick. I fell in love with it instantly the first time I saw it. It doesn't repeat as well as I'd like it to. And the blooms tend to blow pretty quickly. It can range from tan (or paper-bag-brown as I call it) to creams and yellows and sometimes it'll get some greyish tones and then turn more lavender too. Depends on the weather.

The more cream-colored ones that have some apricot or tannish tones are ADRIANA, JOSE CARERRAS, FRENCH LACE and the oddly-colored REBECCA SUSAN. And then of course the lovely apricot MARILYN MONROE gets those greenish edges which make her eligible for the oddball class. She fades to a weird tannish apricot-cream color too.

Got ADRIANA from Pickering, but I don't know whether they still carry it or not. Maybe Hortico has it now. BUTTERSCOTCH CL is available several places.... Vintage Gardens, and maybe Moore's Roses in PA? HONEY DIJON, MARILYN MONROE and IRISH CREAM should all be available at various places, some local, maybe. Regan's is a good source. FRENCH LACE is not as easy to get. Maybe Roses Unlimited might have it tho. CAFE should be available at Vintage and maybe Rogue Valley Roses, and maybe even Hortico. JOSE CARERRAS and REBECCA SUSAN are pretty much only available at Hortico. And as far as I know, Wisconsin Roses is the only place to find STEPHEN RULO.

Oh, and here's another one I forgot about that just bloomed today. It's only available from Hortico also. This is one of my favorite newer roses.

This is one gorgeous rose! The buds start out a reddish orange and open up to this pale tan bloom, and as it ages, it blushes with a lovely salmony color.

A creamy, buff-colored HT that has done well for me is Summer's Kiss (aka Paul Ricard). I got mine grafted from Petaluma Roses (now closed) several years ago. Northland Rosarium, which supplies ownroot bands, now appears to be the only source for this rose.

This is a Meilland rose that has been popular in Europe but never caught on in the US. Too bad, 'cause it's a pretty impressive rose.

I grow the Summer's Kiss as well and can attest to it's beauty and good healthy vigorous growth and heavy blooming. It is a really good garden rose. I am thinking of putting in a new bed as well and concentrate on the brown/tan roses to fill it with as well. I will probably try to plant at least two of each one to assure I get at least one to grow. I think these roses are kind of notorious for poor and/or wimpy growth especially if not fed and watered heavily enough. This will be one bed i really go overboard in the prep stage for.

I've got PAUL RICARD, as I prefer to call it. Must be a cool weather rose, because it doesn't do as well as most of my other roses. My summers average between 89 and 115º. Doesn't repeat or bloom that well here. It is really very pretty tho when it does throw out a good bloom or two.

Beth, is your Paul Ricard/Summer's Kiss grafted or ownroot? My grafted one does very well in my faily intense heat. However, the several cuttings from it that I've rooted are taking FOREVER to amount to anything.

Mine's grafted. Could be the soil needs amendments. We have red volcanic clay. Not much nutrients in it. But other roses in the same bed do ok.

Has anyone seen in person the new Star Roses climber offering, Chocolate Sundae? It says flowers are small and bush is tender, but the photo looks interesting. Other roses in the buff-cafe range I have liked include Tantara, and I still like the mauvy, near ancient Lavender Pinnochio. The climber Ash Wednesday is a gray-tan pink for me here in Los Angeles, a bit stingy with blooms.

I was at the international test gardens at Rose Hills yesterday and saw two new test roses of note. One was a hybrid tea or hybrid tea-shaped floribunda blooming factory of cafe au lait colored flowers which aged to lavender. The other was a beautiful clear tan hybrid tea shaped rose with a cocoa colored heart. I have a photo of that one (they gave me a flower) but do not know how to post it here.

What about russets? Anyone ever have luck with Victoriana or Jocelyn?

The idea of a tan and cream garden is nice. Maybe some chocolate cosmos or scabiosa would look good too!

Have you seen the new one from Weeks called Pumpkin Patch? Do not know if it will be available anywhere but Armstrong, but it looks great!
