Vogue Anniversary Rose and Bliss Parfuma Rose, Any info?

Hi All,

I'm thinking of purchasing the new Vogue Anniversary Rose from J&P this fall. It is said to be very disease resistant and that's what i'm looking for. I also noticed they have some new kordes roses out. Kiss me Kate and Bliss (parfuma) among them. I'm thinking of getting all three but i want to know if anyone has had any experience with any of these roses. Particularly Vogue and Bliss which I cant find much info on.

Disease is my biggest concern. Pics would be great!

On Instagram, "redneckrosarian " posted a very nice photo of the bloom of the vogue rose . Looks pretty ! I think since they are both brand new there won't be much info yet on it . You may have to take one for the team and be the guinea pig ! :)

Pair of Kiss Me Kates arrived from Roses Unlimited only last week. Very good looking babies, already putting out new growth, unfazed by their 2-day trip in a dark box during high 90's heat. One has 2 laterals 3' long, the other has 4, each 2' long.

Bliss/Marchenzauber/KORmarzau introduced by Kordes in Germany in 2015. Kordes calls it a Floribunda, a Fairy Tale rose, yet it won Best Hybrid Tea in both La Tacita, Italy & Baden-Baden, Germany in 2016. Looks lovely in both coloring & flower power. Beauty, fragrance & health is a winning combination in my book, too. With 4 stars for blackspot resistance, the bugaboo here, will be looking for this one. Great name, Chris! Sue

World Federation of Rose Society Trials 2016, winner Golden Rose award & Gold Medal for Hybrid Teas. "The 2016 rose trial in Baden-Baden, Germany was a kind of Kordes-festival as ten out of twenty-one awards went to this German breeding company. It started with the Golden Rose of Baden-Baden for Rosa 'KORmarzau' Marchenzauber, a hybrid tea with cream and pink, cupped, full blooms which are apricot at the centre. This Kordes-variety also got the Gold Medal for Hybrid Teas."

What a Fun Thread! Although, I have no idea what are my top 10 favorites????? I have 125 rises recent count and about 10 coming…… & LOVE THEM ALL! Hmmmmmm ??????? Thank you, Rosie Friends, for sharing your fav lists. I sm looking at them…..great ideas to see what works best or is best for all of you and your plant zones. This will be my second season with Bliss Parfuma and I also love it! Extremely healthy with gorgeous blooms that last forever and a lovely bushy, well foliated shrub shape. I have found fragrance to be moderately strong in heat and very strong in cooler temperatures, which might explain how it won the Glasgow Tollcross Fragrance Award. It has a very pleasant and unusual fragrance like a jasmine-based perfume with hints of sweet fruit and…maybe shea butter? I have never grown any other modern Kordes aside from Beverly, which really does have the most amazing peach/plum/citrus fragrance. It has a very attractive growth habit for a hybrid tea and has a low thorn count. I no longer grow it because it frequently developed powdery mildew in my conditions, a weakness it must have inherited from its parent The McCartney Rose. Amongst older Kordes roses, none can be more fragrant, beautiful, charming, romantic or floriferous than Crimson Glory or Barcelona!

Diane, you are so right! "It's all in the game". Roses are naturally prickly. Sure, some are completely to very smooth and "nice" to handle, and those are definitely the ones to go for for gardeners that can't or are unwilling to accept that roses are like that. Whether the reasoning is pets or children, I remember growing up as a kid whose grandmother had roses, barberry bushes, and gooseberries. All quite prickly plants. I never got myself hurt. It's like the education about poison ivy: Do NOT Touch it! Not to mention, why would kids be running amok in the flower garden anyway? Veggies I can see. I feel absolutely no fear, anxiety, or concern over any of my roses that are prickly. (Unless I actaully fall into one, ha!) I have Harison's Yellow, William Lobb, Rosa eglanteria, Munstead Wood, Gertrude Gekyll, Rosa primula, Rosa hugonis, and Gabrielle Noyelle that ALL feature quite notable spiky prickles. Albertine is more of a "whip with shark teeth"; quite prickly, but in a different fashion. Huh! Someone here can't smell Just Joey. Amazing. Every time I encounter it potted in a nursery and blooming, I find the scent delightful. Sure shows the individuality of everyone! I agree with the catalogue descriptions exaggerating fragrances. Usually if it's listed as "moderate" or "medium" and more, I can smell it and do so easily. I find even Peace and its sports to be moderately fragrant time to time and when they are, they're really enjoyable. My only modern Kordes is Madame Anisette and I love its anise scent. Very nice, pungent, and distinctive. I like that its blooms go from high centred to very full and sometimes quartered when fully opened. It's been pretty vigorous here own-root, but the cane borers got it a bit this past summer. I'm hoping to try Dark Desire, but I'm really out of room for current beds. I'd need to cut new ones in the limited spaces with lots of sun remaining because I'm a tree lover and have many in the yard. Steven

Suzanne I have three off your DA list, all were planted last year. I can’t help but call her Dezzi, I have two, and absolutely love her. She blooms her head off and is super healthy in my garden. Across the path from Dezzi is QoS. Mild myrrh fragrance, narrow, but taller than I was expecting. Very disease resistant for me. This year I’m moving her to the back, and putting Bliss at her feet. The Poet’s Wife. Love, love, LOVE her! She stayed in the 3gal pot I bought her in all season, and surpassed my expectations. Big exceptionally fragrant blooms that remind me of fruit cups I used to get in my lunch box as a kid. I ordered two of her so I’ll have three for my mailbox garden. She does get some lighter colored blooms, I’m not sure if that will change once she is in the ground, but also very disease resistant for me. I don’t spray. I almost got Savannah too this year, and I hope South Africa turns out good. This will be my first year with a few Kordes, I mostly have Austins atm.

I also thought those roses were gorgeous! I liked Vogue but in some photos it looked yellow and I'm not fond of yellow roses. I like yellow/apricot tawny roses though. Bliss looks lovely but they are new so I'm assuming no one knows yet. I did buy Spice it Up which was also new this year because I was curious as to the color combo. It looks like a pink sunset in photos so we shall see! Its doing great though. They also sent me a free Heirloom bareroot that I just planted up a month ago and it already has a tiny rose bud formed.

I too am interested in Vogue rose but only if if it has some Apricot tints to the yellow. I thought it was a way to get some Julia Child in my garden without her size because it is descended from Julia Child and is supposed to stay small. I should probably wait for people in my region to report on the size after growing it for a few years before I buying it. Patience is so difficult!
