Just need to vent about something

Bluestone Perennials mailing policies! I ordered some fall planting perennials back on August 28th, 3 salvia, 3 achillea, 6 myosotis, and 6 asters. They wait until probably last Friday to ship out (if they shipped yet) and now they are sitting there at the USPS over a holiday weekend! I'll be lucky if they are still alive by the time they get here.

OK, someday I will get over their mailing policies, but I just needed to vent.

Are you sure they shipped yet? I thought their site said they begin fall shipping mid-September.

You can always track the status of your order from their site, and they often email me when plants are shipped. Next time around, you can request a specific week that you'd like them to ship. That way you aren't agonizing through a holiday weekend about plants that may have gone out in the mail and may be sitting at the post office. ;-)

otnorot--I have a cym outside; very stingy as well (no spikes this year). I have a mini-catt intergeneric that I was thinking of putting outside this year so it could have more light (it hasn't been happy since I got it about a year ago) but most stay inside. At ten indoor plants, I don't think I have that many. ;-) Beautiful photo, thanks for the inspiration. What is the watering secret to catts (mine has never been happy and only has a couple roots now)? calvin_orchidlover--I will look for T5s, thanks. I think my tallest orchid is a brassia intergeneric. I took an "inventory" last night, after I posted my vent, and it actually seems okay in it's new home, just covered in drywall dust that I washed off. It has continued to grow during winter with no crinkled leaves AND has a new pbulb growing (that was a surprise). I may not move it back. The other larger plants can sit in front of my now-smaller window, and the rest would probably fit under the cabinets if the light is thin enough. I feel like such a whiner b/c the new kitchen is nice. As for foliage plants, I never truly gave them up. I have several pothos, a very happy marantas, some sans, aglaonema etc. Thanks for the responses :-)

Rae- DH does most of the work- I have been banned from touching walls because of all the cracks I put in the plaster walls in our last house when hanging pictures. I forgot to mention even though the job is a DIY- because of time constraints DH hung the drywall but we paid some handyman friend of my cousins to do all the taping and patching. We ended up paying him like 1300 bucks to get the job done before my 4 year old's birthday party in November- money down the drain since it has to be done again. I'm glad we didn't paint in there yet though. Years ago before we had kids- we would be fixing up and working together, now its mostly him because of the kids, they are still really little, and they need a lot of attention. Thanks for all your support- I'm really just hitting the wall w/ this renovation. I will never move again! We moved here in May and the whole house needed to be redone- not one upgrade since 1959! It was twice the size of our last house, and the property was 3 times the size, and we wouldn't be able to ever afford it if it had been in good condition. I think we are just in way over our heads- but there is no turning back now. Mo sgal- I really know what you mean by S...L...O....W Rmkitchen- I'm still laughing at the "vent" joke pcjs- thanks for the webpatch tip- I will tell DH Thanks everyone- I think DH will thank you too since I didn't wine to him this time- this GW thing might just be good for my marriage! You live in chaos! I'd go bananas! And, wow, I don't think I'd be up for someone my BF had smooched (or more) living in our home! That said, if you want to have more fairness and structure around the place, I'd suggest calling some sort of meeting to have everyone get on track about the chores. "There's a lot of us in a small space right now, and we all have different personalities, schedules and needs. So, let's take those into account and devise a plan for who's doing what chores and when. 'Tammy' you like a clean bathroom, could you do a twice weekly bathroom clean? 'Mike' how about you run around with the vacuum twice a week? 'Lorraine' can you please make sure the kitchen floors and the counters are free of crumbs each day? I will do the grocery shopping to make sure that we use our fridge and cupboard space effectively. 'Tom', you're usually the last one to go to bed, so can you fold up the blankets in the living room each night and make sure all the lights are out and doors are locked? Everyone should pick up their own mess right away and do their own dishes. Parents of small children, please help your kids clean up their messes." Present the simple fact that the cleaning must be done and that everyone should be contributing. Stand your ground! Don't be a doormat! Be firm about not being a doormat! No baloney - you are officially off processed meat!! It will take awhile, but if you stick to it, they'll figure out you mean business. You and DF might need to call a truce about your sister and his son to help keep the peace while your house is in uproar... These topics might need to be temporarily out of bounds - if you have to complain, maybe doing it to a friend is a solution? Agree to have a calm discussion once things settle down and there's less stress to deal with. I've done that with SOs/family/friends in the past and it's worked out well.

I am looking strongly at Kobe, Electrolux, and also some others such as Zephyr, Faber, and Windster. The Windster is quite affordable. The Faber and Zephyr brands have some ones that have some 'rounded' design elements on the pipe area and front of the vent that look sort of nice. Gives a bit of personality to the hood, but not too much. Lots of my hem hawing has to to with what 'style' but the spec thing adds to the confusion. I look at them and try to imagine them over my stove and in conjunction with the other elements in the kitchen and after a while I am so addled that I shrink away from them all! I think that when you are in a remodel, all the decisions that you have to make begin to wiegh on you after a while and even little things can make you 'tilt'. I love my E-lux gas range - it was a find - a small scratch made it very affordable. Love my micro - an LG that looks like it was made to go with the range. Fridge is 'panel ready" - a challenge in my design where stainless would have made it easy. We will probably do something over the top like making leather or cowhide panels for it. We train horses for a living and as the saying goes, if you dont know what to do with it, cover it with cowhide. :) That is a challenge for another post and another day. Using rough slate on the floors - a natural and easy choice for us since we have a slate porch and lots of leftover tiles. Very interesting stuff and very tough. For now, however, the decision is about the range hood. It is gonna be focal, so has to be pretty. Cirone - you mentioned here that a 36 inch hood was put over a 30 inch range. How does that look? I have heard that it is recommended that the hood extend three inches out to give better capture area, but am not sure I would need to worry about that since I am not a major cook. I have ordered from Overstock and they were easy to deal with - made it right when my sink came dented. Ironically, Dianalo, I just talked to a sales rep at a Sears outlet yesterday and they have one chimney style Kenmore there with a scratch that makes it affordable. Long drive for me to check it out since I am in the middle of the woods but may have to go look. Would like to order online to make it quick and easy. Sparklekitty - Havent heard of Eurostoves so will have to look at them. Sounds as if they were good to work with. Artemis - which Kobe did you get? When it comes in, you will have to post about how you like it! Happy that you got your decision on that behind you as I know how hard the choosing can be! I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has gone round and round over this - thanks for all the feedback. Makes it 'feel all better'! :)

My zone ships out early September according to their web site. Also have received no email from them saying they shipped out at all. And, there is no way to track your order on their site. If you go to "Order status" it says that they keep all info at BPs and there is no way to track unless you call or email them.

Let me begin by saying I would never defend this company if I hadn't experienced the same thing with positive results...

NOW - We could start a club!!

I ordered during their spring sale - one of the first days of the 2009 sale. I had never ordered from them before. I received an email on a Friday, stating that my order had shipped. It was HOT HOT HOT then...

I was so mad, I went to the UPS website and calculated shipping time if Bluestone Perennials had waited until Monday to ship. I think I did receive a tracking number, or maybe I called and was told that it did ship...My memory fades...Waiting until Monday would've had them arrive on Thursday, vs Wednesday, and plants would not have sat in a UPS warehouse or truck over the weekend. My plants arrived, on Wednesday, and some looked like lettuce does when you store it in a plastic bag and it goes bad - mushy green stuff. I called, still all mad, and a lady was super nice. She said they would replace all dead plants. I cut the mushy stuff away and planted - in the HEAT!! Stupid me.

I have to say, it's been months and I am still irritated about the shipping timing, but the plants ALL look great!! Perhaps their experience shows that the quantity of plants that truly die, after crazy shipping practices, are minimal.

Someday I'll get over the shipping, which I think is ridiculous but maybe necessary with the numbers of orders they receive, and I definitely will order from them again. If I order again during less then plant friendly weather, and of course I will since that's when they are on sale, maybe I will opt for expedited shipping; maybe not. Customer service is great there.

Unhealthy plants would never have survived what mine order was subjected to - the shipping and then immediate planting in 90 degree heat.

STOP WORRYING:)) I fretted for no reason...

Had to email them about my order today. They said it will ship out tomorrow the 9th. Good. Hopefully that still leaves the plants enough time to establish themselves a little.
