mmm. Nice infestation of rust it's got going on those hawthorn fruits, bet if you look closely, there are probably some leaf & twig lesions, as well.

Rust? is that what that is? Is that something that is lethal?

Gymnosporangium rust, a two-generational fungal disease affecting hawthorns, with the alternate generation affecting junipers. Not lethal, but somewhat debilitating in bad cases (which yours isn't) and can be rather unsightly. Look at the fruit clusters at the top just right of centre, and at the far right, and you can see some of the fruit are swollen, brown and lumpy, instead of green with a black tip. They are fruit infected with the fungus, and shedding spores which go to infect junipers. Infected junipers produce blobs of orangey jelly-like stuff that releases spores which then infect hawthorns again.

I'm not seeing the rust. I am seeing the remains of the flowers on each fruit, but not any rust. Where is it?

The lumpy brown fruit in the clusters I mentioned above, in "the fruit clusters at the top just right of centre, and at the far right". Also a green fruit, getting large and lumpy but not brown yet, just above centre, the tip hidden behind a leaf. Perhaps also one, largely hidden, at the far left, towards the top.

Most of the rest of the fruit (~90%) is uninfected at least as of when this pic was taken.
