I will be watching this post for some suggestions---CB is a great rose.

What's wrong with another CB if you like it? I saw some interplanted with dark purple-flowered hosta (never been able to find one with that dark of purple blooms) and white-flowered ones circling the gazebo at the park, have a photo of it somewhere here. Somebody from the hort club told me that's what the rose was. There is a whole circular garden of what looks like those a block or two from here on a busy street. They are real bloom machines for sure. I can't tell what they have interplanted with them. Don't have a photo of that garden.

Hosta might not grow in the sun and heat there, don't know. It's still there but not nearly as lush as it was back on Sep 6 03 when I took the photo (looking south but blooming on north side as well, best blooms of CB were there actually but didn't want the people in the gazebo in the photo). Plus my photo looks like it's winding down for the season but not so on the other shots. We get scorching heat here in the summer; that gazebo may get a little shade from nearby trees. Normally I'm not big on hosta, but they often have their place.

I fell in love with that rose but have very few sunny spots for it, says it likes full sun.

I'll take the photo out if it's disruptive.

The only photos I've ever seen are disruptive are those shots of japanese beetles that harryshoe posts. btw, harryshoe, where are you? haven't seen your jb pics this year yet, and I miss them ... It's one of the summer's rites of passage around here.

Buff, what about some of Dr. Buck's other pink shrub roses? Quietness is perfect for me and blooms a lot, although bloom form is a lot different than CB. Lots of choices with the Bucks though.

I was thinking of Quietness, from her pics she wouldn't clash with anything!

I was looking at roses on the Rogue Valley site and Gartendirektor Otto Linne caught my eye. It was described as being a blooming machine and very healthy, and I know I've read elsewhere what a good rose this is.

Quietness is a wonderful rose, I've rarely seen it without at least some blooms and it is usually covered with buds and blooms. Even in this heat and drought we are experiencing, she continues to bloom and she's one of the least disease prone roses in my garden. She doesn't have a very strong fragrance but she at least has some.

I'd like to see the sparkling white of Ducher next to that deep pink; and Ducher's small refined blooms would be an interesting contrast-- OK, that's NOT what you were thinking izzit.. In that case, another vote for Quietness which is a generous bloomer, has a very graceful habit and is astonishingly BS-free here in our humid coastal area next to NC. Quietness is a big, big rose here-- very wide.

I have 2 Duchers in pots and it is a good rose for me, but the blooms are very small most of the year. The only Knockout I might choose would be Rainbow. I have a few teas in the back that will eventually get too big for their current places and I could move one of them. These are Etoile de lyon, Rosette Delizy,Perle des Jardins, M. Joseph Schwartz, Safrano or Marie de Orleans. Which would be most satisfactory health and bloom production in humidity he## north Louisiana?

Another vote for Quitness. Better resistance then CB and and is so pretty and generous with blooms.

Thanks, duchesse. Quietness IS a lovely rose. CB (didn't know it was a Buck, too) is a little brighter pink. HMF says z4b for Q, CB 6a but I've pushed zones before.

Sometimes I wish I'd gone with what they did at the park, but it's too late now, and I never could get an exact id on the hostas, thought the white was Honeybells, the purple plantageneria (sp?), so I got 3 of the latter which I thought would be more purple for elsewhere, and they are the same ole lavender; most people get them just for the leaves.

If I weary of the care my fussy Austins take (already am), I may tear it all out and switch or give it up altogether. Already have two pretty light pink fully doubles that are not doing well for me, yet anyway. Awakening but that is not what the OP would want because it would climb like crazy in a hot zone; I'm pushing zones on those, too, will probably dig them out.

HMF says some repeat later in the season for CB; that is not what I am seeing unless it has not been id'ed correctly on my end. I think the OP has something entirely different in mind, and that is perfectly ok; we have to grow what suits us best for where we want them.
