Please help ID seeds (pics)

Good evening everyone. 3 weeks ago, half a mile from my house, I met someone. Her garden was so beautiful and colorful. Anyways, she gave me seeds which came from spent flowers. Below are the pictures of the seeds I got from her. She cut the spent flowers and told me how to extract the seeds.

Anyways, I would like to know if the pictures I have for each plants are actually the seeds. Also, I'm a bit confuse regarding coneflower's seed. Not sure if what I captured is actually seeds.

Also, I'm in zone 5. Should I drop the seeds late April? What are some techniques to get high germination rate? Also, how do I protect these seeds, should I put them in the garage insidde a plastic bag? My garage during peak of winter can go down 10-15F below zero.

The first ones look like Calendula, or Pot Marigold.

I agree, look like calendula. Yes, I think you did get the seed part on the cone flower, the light part is called the tail and is attached to the germ or seed. You can tell if when you pulled them out, it looks like you've left an empty socket or a bunch of dimples in the seed head. Sometimes that's hard to see, but if you pull the seed head apart into two pieces, it'll give you a very good view to see if you've gotten the whole seed out.

It's this one, Araujia sericifera, aka Cruel Vine, plus several other names. After reading about this plant, I would not plant it in my yard. It seems to be the kudzu of California, smothering anything in its path. Here is a link that might be useful: Araujia sericifera

Definately a Mullein you have there, they grow wild all around our village and I have to up-root hundreds each year from the garden otherwise they would take over completely as they make so much seed. I always leave a few dotted around as I think they're a lovely plant, they grow to well over 6ft. If you cut off the old flowering stem after it's gone over smaller inflos will sprout from lower down Gill.

Years ago, I purchased seeds that were identified as both W. filifera and W. robusta. Only the robustas survived and continued to the present day--pure filiferas all seemed to die out over time. Some of my current collection of Washingtonias were seed grown, one brought up from Miami, and a few supermarket bought locally (which was unusual because neither filifera, robusta, nor filibusta tend to be sold locally)--too prickly for the average house and not Winter hardy in zone 7 (without protection). All were labeled Mexican fans (W.robusta) but as I say, I suspect some may be filibusta, but I doubt I have any pure filifera. Filifera may well do fine for you in the Pacific NW (or Europe for that matter) where most areas are warm and relatively dry in the summer. I suspect that it's high temps combined with humidity that they might resent. (I would be interested in knowing if any healthy filiferas are grown in South Florida.) In any event, I have more than enough Washingtonias already as they just DON"T DIE--even after spear pull! :) By the way, another palm from an arid region has given me problems over the years. I've tried growing True Date (Phoenix dactylifera) a few times unsuccessfully. Have no problems with other Phoenix species. But I am giving this one another chance. Am growing the current one in a very coarse mix. Monsoon season has just started here so won't be able to post pics until Tuesday . But what I want to do, is to select my most robusta-like Washingtonia and the most filifera-like one in order to get better identifications from the experts out there.

Ditto. The coneflower seeds are the tan cone shapes, not the dark sticks. I store my seeds in the refrigerator in a plastic bag- just make sure the seeds are completely dry before you store them or they will rot in a plastic bag. I dry mine on a paper plate for a week or so. Cool room temp is fine too, probably the garage is ok, but that is getting really cold. Cosmos & calendulas are really easy, you can direct seed them outside after the last hard frost. I think coneflower need cold to germinate, so you can plant the seeds in the ground in late winter.

Oh for the coneflower, I just see very few cone shape like seeds :(

That means the pointy color black which is reachable by our fingers isn't the seeds. Am assuming that at the end of this black thingy is where the coneshape part is attached.

Also, we have daylilies in front. There were tons of hard dried open seed pods. We saw a lot of color black shiny object inside these pods. So I took them. Are those the seeds? Do I store them like calendulas? When can I plant them? I will take pictures later.

Those are the daylily seeds all right. I just got Calendula's this year from my mother and have been trading for more. They reseed themselves for her every year. I can't wait to get them started this spring.

The seed part will always be the part located closest to the center of the seed head. The tail is the part you see sticking out. Ngraham was right, the seed part is the tan part, I had my head on backwards, because the seed is usually darker than the tail, but not on coneflowers. The seed usually has some thickness to it, more dimension than the tail.

Cool! When should the daylily seeds be spread? After last frost? Or before?
