Rugelda is alive!

Years ago I bought Rugelda - beautiful rugosa hybrid w/peach-pink blooms. It quickly became a lanky monster that attacked my late husband whenever he tried mowing the bed it was in (I hadn't allowed it enough space). We moved it onto an inhospitable, shallow soil, rocky slope two years before he died, on the north side of the house. That is the side that I have since ignored, except to mow lawn and have the edges periodically brushhogged.

Here we are, in the spring of incredible rose growth, 9 years later - and I looked up into the jungle of anemone, wild strawberry, white pine seedlings and who knows what else - and there was one of those blooms!

I bushwhacked up, yanked out ferns and what we erroneously call "Indian paintbrush" - and it is a healthy glossy green bush, about 2' X 2'.

I want to move it into the new rose garden, where it can be given the space it deserves. Now going to Ashdown site, to see video about moving roses....
