Any retailer that sells Monrovia plant products could carry it. I brought it in to my nursery once and decided against carrying it again - very pale flowers were virtually unnoticeable against the dusty gray foliage and they certainly weren't the bright yellow that you see in touched up photographs. IMO, there are much better forms of Lavandula stoechas that offer larger and more intensely colored flowers, including many of the new bicolors under the 'Madrid' series. If you are looking for a curiosity, perhaps you'd like to include it in your garden, but I personally wouldn't bother.

That is the information I needed. I have to say I really do love lavendar but if this is not one of the finer ones maybe I won't obsess over it. Really my highest priority is the scent and quantity of harvest per plant. Maybe you can recommend a flavor? I have two lavendars that my husband purchased from Home Depot last year. They're great, I love them. But I'm very open to what else is out there.

Kate, now that I look at your posting again, I'm not at all sure any cultivar of stoechas will work well for you. This species is not nearly as hardy as the English or lavandin forms and even in my zone 8, it is marginal in a tough winter. It also has a different habit from most other lavenders, being more sprawling and less of a tidy mound. And it is not typically used for fragrance or craft purposes, although it does have a nice scent.

The lavandins (Lavandula x intermedia ctvs.) are noted for having very high concentrations of essential oils (hence lots of fragrance) - these are the varieties used most frequently in the perfume trade. Look for 'Provence' or 'Grosso' (aka 'Fat Spike') - they also have the advantage of producing tall flower spikes, good for craft purposes and are heavy bloomers. Personally, I prefer the English lavenders as they tend to be more compact and typically very heavy bloomers with a wide range of colors (from pure white to pink to lavender to a very deep dark purply-blue). English lavenders (Lavandula angustifolia ctvs.) are also the most versatile in terms of being very well scented (good for sachets, potpourri, etc), just drying for bouquets and for culinary purposes. The lavandins are too bitter for cooking.
