What forums do you visit when WS'ing is done?

Just curious as to what other forums you like to visit when the WS seeds are done sprouting and the heat is upon us?

I'll start.

Cottage gardening
seed trade/round robins
tomatoes
Midwest and Great Lakes
growing from seed and seed collecting...
there are a lot of good forums here!

Cottage gardening and Georgia Gardener. Next to the winter sowing forum, the Cottage Gardening forum is my favorite - so is Junk Gardening. People are so nice on those forums, just about as nice as they are here. And lots of people winter sow on both.

Hi Kim...Don't be all worried...This thread is not meant for that..:-) It is just to keep our friends well informed and to teach others what to look for and be aware of, and up to us to decide what to do with it.. We just deliver the news and the public choses what they want to do.. If I were you, I would be more worried of not knowing what could possibly cause harm to your plants than to find out too late, possible after throwing a plant away after it's demise the way many I know had to do in the past. Now you are armed with information that will help you stay ahead of the game in case it happens, avoid future problems, and if you should have any problems from not taking precautionary steps, how it could of started, and what to watch for when you do visit places that sell plants or when you receive them from any source.. I would just keep a close eye on them, and if you notice any strange happenings with your plants, check your cultural habits.Be informed about how to care for them as best as you can learning from these forums.. Learn as much as you can about those jades and what keeps them healthy and happy..Visit the Cactus and Succulents forum..There are jade threads galore.. I would defiantly have a magnifying glass available, and this thread at your disposal if your plants should ever encounter the problems associated with pest's spoken of here.. Josh...My sister loves the point of peat moss you brought up..She says thanks! I say thanks for your advice too.. Lettuce is something I've always wanted to try in the garden. I like your idea Tiffy....using the styro cups. Now I know what I can use those clementine boxes I've been holding on to! I've started saving 2L pop bottles and plan on asking some co-workers to help me out if I don't get enough. I almost stopped today and pulled a big plastic lettuce container out of someone's recycle...but I didn't quite have the nerve. :-) Tiffy, you mentioned you live on the NS coast. I'm headed to Truro this Sunday to visit my parents for a week. I've got my Dad interested in WSing too....so I'll be passing on some adice....from this forum of couse, since this will be my first year. We'll be able to compare notes next year. My Dad has a nice big garden....fenced off against the deer and rabbits. He is excited to save a few dollars by sowing from seed...more variety to choose from too.

Mydreamhome- You make an excellent point about the island, which is why I decided to make it a work table. I'm hoping to find an old library/trestle table, about 3' x 5' and put a marble top on it. If that doesn't work out, I'll look for a nice table with a butcherblock top. The dining room table will have leaves, so it can get bigger and I can turn the island/work table, so there's more room for the table to expand. I'm hoping to use chairs, from the sunroom, because ideally, I would have the work table a little taller than average (slightly lower than counter height) for baking, etc. I'm tall (5'10") so I don't want too short a surface :) The master bedroom is rather small, but the closets have a built-in armoire between them, for the TV and extra storage. We have a smaller room now and it's worked okay, so this will seem big, in comparison. We're trying not to add too much to the original farmhouse, so the only additions are the mudroom and sunroom/porch, with a few feet added to the hall bath, but that needs to be redone, anyway...and a few feet on the vestibule. As for the laundry room, it's a farmhouse and it's not fancy, but comfortable, so it doesn't bother me that people will walk through the laundry/utility room, to get to the sunroom/porch or the powder room. There's also the hall bath, which would probably be used more, by company...unless they're in the sunroom. It will also give me a good reason to keep things organized and looking nice in the laundry area (LOL) I'm excited about the sunroom, because not only will it give me a great place for plants (without kitties chewing on them) but it will also provide a cheerful, sunny space to watch the snow fall in the winter and see the horses run around in their pasture! The mudroom is a favorite of mine, too...it just gives so much more storage and a place for all those winter coats and boots. The hot tub is for my husband (it's all he really wants, besides the basement rec room) and having the deck screened will keep out the mosquitos, barn kitties, and the occasional racoon or porcupine! Life on the farm :) I want the house to be easily accessible for all family/friends to feel comfortable, but it is a farm, so if we can't get around anymore, we'll probably find a cute little manufactured home, put it up nearby and the house will end up with one of the nieces or nephews. That being said, my grandmother was in a walker and later wheelchair and we're planning to have 3' main doors (including the one to the sunroom) and large enough doors to the bathrooms (30"?) to make sure someone with a walker or smaller/travel wheelchair, can easily access them. The front door is almost ground level, so hopefully, that should make it easier for wheelchair or walker access, too. Plus, I think it just makes sense to use rocker light switches, wider doorways and have at least one bathroom accessible, without going up or down stairs...for any home.

There is the kitchen and there is THE HOUSE! In 1989, my husband bought a house built in 1950. He did a huge remodel and added the second story. Then we married in 1997, looked for a house together, could not find a acceptable house that we could afford. So we have been "remodeling" in spurts since then. There is nothing left of the orginal house except for the foundation and a few framing lumber. In retrospect, we would have spent less money and ended up with a better house had we torn down and built new. But we did not have enough money or foresight to make that happen at the time. Because most of us did not score big during the dot come era, most do not have enough money to do the total house remodel at one time. We have to break them up in bits. The kitchen was built new in 1990. We just took that kitchen out and put in a new one. We are not done with this remodel, which is essentially upgrading what was done in 1990.... The bathrooms were done in 1999. I am looking at the bathrooms and realizing that the caulking has to be redone. We just had the electricians "redo/upgrade" some of the things from 10 years ago. For example, outdoor soffit lights needed to be augmented and the outdoor motions sensors re circuited since they were not coming on when needed. Minor jobs, but none the less, something that has to be done. Unfortunately, when you stay in the house long enough, you have to touch up/redo the stuff that you did many years back. So for us, we do what we can ourselves. Additonally, every couple years, we call the trade people and give them a list of things that need to be fixed/upgraded. Keep your electrician and plumber's phone numbers handy!

I stay here all year too. Next comes spring sowing, summer sowing and then the beginning of seed harvesting. Next, I'm sending out seed and then it's time again to winter sow.

I'm here all year too. This is definitely the nicest, friendliest one, and I feel like I have friends here.

I also go to soil and composting regularly, occasionally cottage forum, butterfly, name that plant, annuals, or perennials.

Well, my other favorite forum is the Rocky Mountain Gardening forum, because it addresses gardening issues that are unique to our area. It was also the first GW forum I stumbled upon, and the friendliest forum, other than this one, of course.

I use the Perennial, and Vegetable forums, when I have specific questions about those things, but honestly, most all of my questions are answered just as well on my two favorite forums : )

This year was my first to harvest any of my own seeds, but I imagine as I get more experienced, I will spend more time at the exchange forums.

Greengardener, you're thinking that WSing is "done" after the spring comes and we're ready to plant out, but this forum just keeps going showing off "baby sprout" pictures,or sometimes a " I thought I planted white daisys but this thing is blooming purple, what is it?" questions, then garden beds full of blooms (with subsequent pleas for "save me some seed from that one!", then advise on collecting seed from those blooms and also commercial sites that are having seed specials or great ideas about containers for NEXT year, etc, etc - REALLY, we never run out of stuff to talk about :)! I take a peek almost every day. People are helpful, sometimes funny and Always kind here.

This fall I discovered the round robin exchanges (under seed exchange) and spent lots of time over there too. It just made sense to me to make large swaps and get a huge variety all at once. Because I had wintersowed, I had many seeds from those plants to swap, so it all comes back to Wintersowing!

I mostly stay in the WS forum all year long :) The people on this forum are by far the nicest. Everyone is so helpful and friendly, and it's fun to show pics of seedlings and the finished product. I'm hoping to show pictures of some perennials I WS'd last year hopefully blooming this year. It's great to read and see what works for others and to learn from more experienced gardeners.

I have popped into seed saving, as there's some good info there, and asked a question or two in the plant disease and herbal forum though.

Oh, I know there are still more facets to Ws than I know right now. I can't wait to take pics of what comes up and their progression through out the season.

Not mention it is going to drive my neighbors nuts when they realize I have all those milk jugs outside in the cold temps and things are growing in it. That will be fun to see the baffled looks!

Like carrie630, I check this forum continually, even though I tend to get swallowed up in "Lurkdom" for long periods of time. (Thank you Karen for pulling me out...)

Gardening in Canada (only because climate/season-wise it's a little more similar to my world though still quite different)

I should have said that WS is never over. Many of us Spring and Late Summer sow. Plus everyone posts photos of their WS gardens, and plants - loads of eyecandy so we can get ideas for seeds the next year.
This is one forum that is never very slow - year 'round!
