Mutant Queen Elizabeth

The rose bush! Not the matriarch of the British royal family. And I suppose I should have used "sport" not "mutant" but there's no fun in that.

Anyway. I have a QE which has been generating a sport for the past 2 summers. The bloom shape & petal count is the same but in a creamy pale pink (think vanilla ice cream with a hint of strawberry coloring).

Here's the question: does anyone want a cutting of this sport? I must admit I'm ignorant on propagating roses but am willing to provide someone else with the opportunity to do so.

I would like to see a picture. QE has a beautiful bloom form.

There are a few sports of QE; at least white, yellow, and a climbing variety. If yours differ from either of them it migh be interesting.

Sports sometimes live a short life. Take a look at Iceberg/Schneewittchen and it's many sports. I think several of them are close to extinct. Burgundy Iceberg has has a lasting success, but I wonder for how long.

I was mistaken!! To all (and sundry) who have given so much advice on pruning what I thought was a QE, I apologize! I DO have a glorious hybrid pink rose which did reach 8' this year! But! I realize now I don't know Who she is. I've looked at mine vs QE and there are too many differences. Some while ago, I began filling in a check list from the American Rose Society to see if it was a known rose but I've never gotten around to completing it. I've added a few photos to share with Pink Rose fans! I just don't have any recent ones showing her height this year and I've pruned back a bit after the first blooms faded .

My four years old queen Elizabeth rose got few black spots this year due to three reasons. 1st, I moved and replanted the rose last summer, so the rose need to re-establish the root system and no energy to fight black spots. 2nd, I pruned the rose, in spring, with un-sterilized pruner which I used for other old roses. 3rd, my area got a lot of rain this spring even in early summer, humidity level was very high. BUT, she is a such strong rose I have never seen before, I roughly moved and re-planted her last July, the end of July, she almost lose all the leaves, but she recovered herself in August and gave me a few flowers in September, and another few flowers in October. This spring, I fertilized the rose with cow manure and organic rose food, then she is blooming like crazy, regardless her black spot, one flush followed by another flush, each flush, about three weeks, has 20 flowers approximately, several flowers in between flushes, the flowers hold a nick pink color for a few days and then turn to pale pink, she never drops her head or loss her petals even with big rain or strong wind. She is a really QUEEN, I highly highly recommend the queen of Elizabeth rose, especially if you are a new gardener, or rose lover.

Hmm…so it sounds like it’s not ‘Queen Elizabeth’. ‘Awareness’ was released in 1997 so is too recent a release to be this rose. ‘Agatha Christie‘ looks to be too orange and too dark to be this rose based on the photos on HelpMeFind. Thanks for the suggestions though. Most ”moderately” fragrant roses turn out to be faintly or lightly fragrant in this low humidity climate, but this one is stronger than that. It’s not quite but nearly as strong as my most fragrant roses. It’s comparable to ‘Bishop’s Castle’, but not wafting, and not quite as strong.

I've read here that Burling Leong of Burlington Roses in CA does custom grafting. I believe it was the late, great Ralph Moore who once said that Ms. Leong is so good at what she does that she could propagate a bowling ball.

If a really interesting variation appeared on one of my roses, I think I'd investigate the possibility of sending budwood to her.

Not trying to steal this thread, but on the subject of Iceberg sports,My burgundy is changing to a striped or swirled flower just for the record. VERY cool to me as I like stripes but if I was not a fan it would be upsetting.

Every flower is different and it is still doing it. These photos were from Nov and I thought maybe the temps were why....but I bet not.

Particentral, 'Burgundy Iceberg' sported from 'Brilliant Pink Iceberg'. It looks to me like your plant is reverting to its sport parent's color pattern.
