Honey Locust & Hackberry problem, NW Wyoming

Greetings,

It's been a while since I visited the forum. The vast majority of my 350+ trees are doing fine. But I'm having a 'failure to thrive' problem with my Honey Locust and Hackberry trees. They're not leafing out, there's die-back and leaves are tight and curly. These trees were planted during the past 3-7 years and have done fine initially with drip irrigation. Last year I set up high volume sprinklers and have been getting a lot more water on the trees. The decline seems correlated to the switch in watering regimen? But the pines, spruces, chokecherry, willow, cottonwood, green ash, aspen, etc... are healthy and growing better than ever. The Honey Locust and Hackberry look really sick. I'm in a desert climate with alkaline soil and water, lots of wind with cold and very dry winters. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Thanks!
