How long to keep potted before planting?

I have purchased a William Baffin rose, and will be potting up for a short time before transplanting in the ground. I'm getting him from Ashdown Roses so he is ownroot potted. When would be the latest I would have to have him in the ground by, here in NE Ohio? I don't have a garage to place him in for the winter, just an unheated, non insulated shed, so keeping him in there for the winter wouldn't work. Should I just pot up for a month? Or should I just give him a few days to adjust to my climate, then go ahead and plant in the ground? I don't want to wait too long to get him in the ground, so he'll have time before autumn to settle in for the winter. He'll be coming mail order sometime this week.

Thanks all,

kentstar
