I've planted bareroots in 5gal. buckets until I could plant them later in the season and they were fine. Obviously that won't work if it's too long before you can plant them out. I'm not too sure about the garden soil, but hopefully it will suffice for a while.

Thank you Seil and Vaporvac! I knew garden soil was not a good idea but I am too scared to go to the garden center now. I’ll try to order some compost and sand on-line but not sure if they will deliver since this is not considered essential.

The small pots are 13inch wide but only 9inch deep and quite narrow at the bottom. 3 gallons only I believe. There weren’t much space at the bottom after I put the roots in.

I've done that too and it was fine for shorter term. I don't use sand, btw. A potting mix with perlite is best if you're buying it pre-made. It will be nice to enjoy them.

Order online--maybe not through amazon who is prioritizing packages. My daughter works for a national chain and their online sales are keeping them alive. Garden products are more than double in sales compared to the same week last year. If you order it they will do their best to see you get it.

Part of helping each other right now is buying from vendors online if you can afford too!

Of the bigger pots, I'd use one for Laguna. That one wants to be big and grew a lot it's first year--unlike many climbers that just hang around for the first year...

I can't picture how you guys keep these things in pots. The roots on the roses I have received are pretty -massive- On my BR plantings, roughly a 2 feet deep hole, the DA Bare Roots I have received, the larger roots literally bottomed out

I put Cecile Brunner in the large pot thinking that’s a big climber. Lacuna is in the medium sized pot. Maybe I’ll try replanting it if I get another large pot in.

a1an: the bare roots I got from Regan had their roots trimmed, not too extreme but the roots look a little smaller than the DA roots I got last year. They barely fit in the small pots, not much space at the bottom of the pots. I hope they survive until we can move them into the ground, hopefully in June.

According to an email I received a few days ago, horticultural operations in NYS were deemed essential last week. So my local garden center is doing deliveries this week, and allowing curbside pickup next week. Since they are across the street from the exceedingly, massively, incredibly essential cat food store, I'll be down there soon to see what is going on.
