I hate ice! (*shudder*) Being a clumsy person and all...

I tend to break fingers on that stuff, trying to catch myself on my way down. I haven't done that in a long while though. I hope to escape that fate this year.

I'm going to stay in the house all day, hopefully ensuring no injuries. Although, I'm on the clutzy side, so I could still manage to hurt myself :)

Ewwwwwwwww. Poor baby. Did the sun come out today and melt all that ice? We had a lot of wind last night, 50 MPH gusts. Today the temp didn't go above 32. I have my WS seeds sitting in a little greenhouse on my back deck. Last night the temps went down in the 20s. I have three containers that sprouted; Russian Sage, morning glories and Snapdragons. I brought them in to a part of the house where the temp is 45 degrees. It's supposed to warm back up to normal tomorrow. I hope your little WS seedlings are doing ok.

Mo girl:I hope you have no power problems. For here they're predicting 3-5" of snow tonight, changing to ice tomorrow morning, back to snow tomorrow night. Considering that this city is paralyzed by and inch of snow, this is going to be a mess.
When the sun finally hits that tree, it's going to be awesome. This was our maple tree last year after an ice storm. It looked like crystal.

Thanks for your concern everyone. We have had some power outages, but are back up ... for now. I've got the heat cranked up so if it goes out later, it will stay warm for a while tonight. The ice is thicker now. Some of the tree limbs are touching the ground. It's still not as bad as last year's icestorm, thankfully. I think it will melt on Wed., so that's not too bad.

Proudgm, hope you're doing well and staying warm. I'm pretty far south of you, so I don't know if you're getting similar amounts of ice. Sounds like a lot of the midwest is getting winter weather. Makes sense, I guess, it is February.

My hats off to all you guys living in the midwest! Hang in there, spring is just around the corner!!
Gosh, where is global warming when you need it?

I read a few articles recently suggesting some scientists believe we could be in for a global cooling cycle. Supposedly the sun goes through 11-year cycles. Apparently, so far in our current solar cycle, activity is at very low levels, similar to what it was during a period in the 17th Century, when much of Europe endured frigid winters and cold summers, leading to major crop failures.

I have no idea if it's true, just found it interesting. I guess we'll find out in a few years. All I know is it's really cold today. I saw a headline that says it's -40 degrees in northern Minnesota ... those poor people.

The earth does go through cycles but it doesn't have to do with solar activity, but the flux of carbon in the air. We are in a warming period and scientists (most anyway) are monitoring the situation to see if more emissions will lead to a longer, hotter period.

As for broken fingers, it hurts way more than it sounds. But it looks like the freezing rain is going to be light so... no worries!
