Sugar maples as street trees and crababbles in alkaline soil?

I'm developing a park area in a residential housing development and have an area to plant a row of six trees along a street and six at the back edge of the park. On Tuesday I purchased six crabapples (prairiefire) and six fall fiesta sugar maples - got a steal on them and they all look beautiful (I also realize it's not an ideal time of year to plant them, though I'm diligent with water maintenance). After bringing them home of course I found out it would have been a good idea to do a little research ahead of time; looking them up online I find out that the sugar maples are salt intolerant and both are questionable in my slightly alkaline soil. Can a sugar maples and crabapples grow in slightly alkaline soil even if it's not ideally acidic? Can crabapples handle a small amount of road salt? Obviously, I'm thinking of sticking the maples in the park and planting the crab along the street. Thoughts?
