bottle brush buckeye buckeyes
Comments (5)has no one posted here of late. it's been a week & this is still at the top of the page. I planted some buckeye's in pots & some have already sprouted. as I already stated many of last years nuts did not overwinter when I stored them. they just shriveled up. this year I'm planting everything. I do not have room to try & keep these indoors so i'll heel in the pots. but-when I plant the nuts how can I protect them from squirrels? I'm thinking about putting some rocks around them & putting a piece of plywood on the rocks. that would allow some room in case any shoots poke their heads out of the ground. i'll plant them in a tight cluster so it should not require more than 1/2 of a sheet....See MoreWhat is wrong my my leylands? Comments (9)I grew a few from seed two springs ago. I stuck the seeds in the crisper drawer of my fridge until the end of December. January first I put them in a container with moist sphagnum moss and tossed them back into the crisper drawer. Check once a week for germination, as mine germinated during cold stratification. Plant any that start to germinate. At the end of February/early March, plant any remaining seeds that have not germinated. Out of about a dozen, I only had 1 or 2 that did not germinate for me. Your alternative is to plant them in a pot, sink the pot into the ground, cover the top with mulch, and stick something overtop it to keep it squirrel/rodent proof. Mother nature will take care of the rest. Could you post a pic of the tree? It sounds very beautiful....See MoreWhen will my red buckeye leaf out?
Comments (6)coalescing both answers.. and adding.. the only time to fert is if it is a potted plant.. watered by means that involves flushing the media repeatedly .. so that new nutrients must be re-introduced .. a tree will bloom when it is mature enough to bloom.. and food will not speed maturity ... eh?? my boy is eight.. and if i feed him 20,000 calories a day .. he will not become 10 years old ... nor will he flower ... ken...See Morebrandon7 TN_zone7
