I have had a 1992 Simplicity Broadmoor for 14+ yrs... Regreatfully do to a Brain ****, I never checked the oil and Blew the engine.. To much to replace or repair...

I was ready to pull the trigger on a New Simplicity Prestige with PS, Hydro lift deck, tilt wheel and a 44" deck and was told that it uses the Kohler Courage engine 25hp... vs the Kohler Command 25HP on the larger deck models.I was told the Courage is a residential engine vs the Command which is heavier duty... more commercial...

Anyone have any experience or opinion between the 2 engines ?

PS.. I have also thought of just buying a New Broadmoor with the 20hp and 44" deck.. and save $2K..

Surely you don't mean you never checked the oil in 14+ years? Say it ain't so!

If I had to choose between the Courage and Command engines I would opt for the Command. JMHO

no need to rub it in.

Rich, if what we are ready is correct then I'd get one with the same engine as your 92. Change the oil on the new one and it should last you forever!

"Does the term convection microwave mean a regular microwave w/ a fan so the cooking is slightly faster and more even. If this is the case, then food could still come out chewy?" We have the Sharp 930 (which as mentioned above appears to be identical to the Dacor) and along with straight just convec, there is a 30% micro power/convec and a 10% micro power/convec option. Have used both for basic roasting like chicken breasts and it has worked fine (you can tier the speeds such to cook at the higher setting to start and then step down to the 10% setting to keep food from cooking too fast). We use the mixed most for faster, more even defrosting and for heating up leftovers. One downside, the broiling setting is sort of a hoax--just runs it at a high heat setting. Overall, we like it very much.

I would just leave the buds on the tree and let them bloom. If they develop fruit to the size of a marble I would then remove them. It was probably under stress and decided to bloom. I had a meyer lemon that bloomed about a month ago but it do not set any fruit. It is not that uncommon. If you remove the flowers sometimes that will encourage them to bloom more.

You cannot feel your job is over because someone has a license. You need to choose the slabs, figure out and approve the layout and examine and approve the product before it leaves the shop. Look at seam layout. And ask for a sample of or see how any seams are treated. Look at past work of the installers for that. And there's more. . .like proper sink install and more. Start by reading counter problem threads in the kitchen forum and make a list. Talk about everything with the fabricator and installers ahead of time to set your reasonable standards.

if its mostly the double ovens you want I would do that...strip the hardwood floor and restain it a medium brown. the counter is fine/ the cabinets are fine for this phase with young kids [ i see a little guy there]......cabinets are mis matched w floor but the cabinets appear in good condition..... yellowish floors are something to change in my opinion ...and leave the rest for now. ...... good luck whatever direction.....nickel hardware is pretty standard.

Rich, according to Simplicity's website, the 25/44 comes with a Kohler Command engine. Might want to double check with your dealer.

At this point in Kohler's Courage, I would HIGHLY recommend staying away from the entire Courage line of engines.

We have FIVE in our shop right now for various failures.

In Kohler's defense, they are taking care of most failures.

I was given a used Broadmoor with a blown engine-14 hp. Lack of oil was the cause!
I replaced it with a used Briggs 12 hp engine, and it runs fine, and doesn't even notice the missing 2 hp! Even gathers leaves and grass clippings with the auxiliary blower and catcher!

I wasn't rubbing it in, I assure you. But when I first read the post I was agog.

In hindsight it's clear that had the oil not been checked for that amount of time the engine would have been toast years ago. A warning and precaution for the rest of us perhaps? You can't check engine oil often enough.

To clarify: Do to some family issues... I never changed or checked the oil "this" year !!

The Simplicity policy for 2007 and prior was " Prestige 44" deck comes with 25hp Kohler Courage"..

I called the VP of Sales.. a very nice and accomodating man, Wayne Whitehead. He authorized the 25hp Kohler with the 44" deck ! Never hurts to go upstairs !!
He also indicated that for 2008 Simplicty will be selling the Conquest and Prestige seperatly and you choose the deck size.

The Command is approx $300 more... but as I indicated to the VP...My Tractor, My call..My Money !! and I was not comfortable with Courage engine...

Soooo.On Saturday, I am having delivered the Prestige 2WD with 44" deck, mulching kit and extra set of blades
with the dealer providing $ 200 trade in for the Broadmoor and $500 rebate.. Cost $5,500.

To further clarify:

On Simplicity's web site there are 2 separate comparisons.
On # 1 Product spec's.. It's 25hp with Command engine...
however on their #2 Compare spec's as well as their Brochure, it states: 44" deck Courage engine.. 50" -54" deck.. Command Engine...

2 things amaze me.
1. That you can get a Kolher from Simplicity owned by Briggs and Stratton, and
  2. That anyone would try to sell a Courage in a $6000.00 tractor.

I figured it was something like that--hence the "Say it ain't so!".

I still think you will be better off and happier with a Command engine. I've read too many complaints about the Courage line.
