The South is getting torched this summer

North Texas just limped through a 102 degree day, and tomorrow we are facing another blistering heat spell. It seems like the whole South is suffering right now. My brother is a deployed Army Ranger, and he just told us that almost 103 candidates of the latest Ranger training class at Ft. Benning, Georgia dropped out within the first week due to heat.

It may be time to start constructing shade cloth tents for the roses. With so many new plants in the gardens, the serious heat could do a lot of damage. Even the 'Victoria Blue' salvia is hurting. Despite daily waterings the very tops of the salvia is drooping. I think the only plants that are doing well are the Tickweed, Texas Skullcap, and Euphorbia 'Diamond Frost.'

Would anyone like some sun? We have way too much here right now.
