bud pinching to delay blooming times

Because I want the 'big show' of my perennial garden to happen in September (all the gardens in my area are pretty much finished blooming by July), I am planting trumpet lilies, floribunda roses, chrysanthemums, freesias, asters and other fall-loving plants.

My questions is this:

Can I also pinch off the buds of early-blooming perennials like lupins, delphiniums, columbines, to force them into blooming later in the Summer?
