Carnivorous plants for NW Washington State (outdoors)
Comments (1)actually it sounds great to me. just make sure you line the tub with plastic. in your zone, you can put any of the sarracenia in it, any venus fly traps, there are several sundews and you could possibly do some darlingtonia. you could also mix it up a bit with habenaria or malaxia bog orchids. do it!...See More--western washington state growers--
Comments (3)Hey, T-Bob! I'm also Western WA (Zone 8a/9a according to the USDA map which makes for some interesting coin flips). We're in an odd little micro-climate here and you may be as well. Your best bet for getting a solid last frost date is probably to email the folks at the WSU extension for San Juan county. Their website link is at the bottom of this. If you go to the 'Master Gardners' page and click on the 'FAQ Page', there's an email link at the very bottom of the FAQ. I'm planning starting some peppers from seeds for the first time this year as well. Here's wishing good luck for us both. Comments (14)Many junipers do well in that setting and they come in so many color / size / shape options, including a few "mini italian cypress" looking forms. Hetzii, etc The 'Sky Pencil' holly is super, and evergreen bayberry is another good native. You'd need to train it to the size you'd want, but they are VERY easy to trim. I LOVE the look of a mixed scrub / shrub hedge or thicket. I'll try to post pics of some nice local ones. Try Cuppressus arizonica - Arizona Cypress if you want a bigger, blue tree. I'm not fond of Leyland Cypress, but it might work for you. Podocarpus macrophyllus is cool if you have shade - use the dwarf 'Maki' if space is tight. PS - My cryptos are doing ok in sandy coastal zone 8A, so far anyway....See MorePLEASE Catagorize by Zones not states
Comments (2)I was going to submit a suggestion but apparently Suzi & Albert beat me to it. I also believe consolidating the numerous state and regional forums to align with the Sunset Zones would be helpful. This would create an environment where more folks would visit the consolidated forums. Currently, I only rarely visit my current regional forums; this due to the low activity on these forums. My only wonder would be if to split the sunset Zones into categories - vegetables, flowers, fruit trees, etc. or if to let them be all inclusive. Below a typical example where the poster in a "states forum" gives up waiting (due to low activity), so the poster then moves to the more frequently visited forum.
