Need advice for new battery powered sprayer...

Years ago I bought the B&D battery sprayer that was a favorite on here that B&D no longer sells. It died on me the end of last summer which I replaced with Rosemania's EZ Sprayer. I loved the spray it delivered and was quite satisfied, except that I did have to use a hand truck to carry it around.

Unfortunately, in May that also went out on me. And, to make matters worse, the company stopped manufacturing the sprayer because there were problems with the sprayers that came from their last shipment and they are presently working with a new company to manufacture a new line. Rob, from Rosemania, was very gracious and did offer a refund. I even was willing to accept a repaired replacement. When that arrived from the manufacturer, that sprayer also didn't work!!!

So, I must now buy a new sprayer and am a little anxious to get one as the almighty BS is working on my roses! grrrrrrrr.

I have looked at the Rocket Sprayer. The company admitted to me that they came out with a new sprayer because there were problems with the pump.

I spoke to Roses inc Tulsa as they had a Rocket Sprayer at a more reasonable price. They told me they no longer carried it as they had problems with it...even with the new pump. They are now selling a PECO, which the owner claims to have used for the past year and is more then satisfied.

Does anyone know anything about these two products or can you suggest another sprayer? I would prefer not to spend $400 for the Spotshot Sprayer at Rosemania.

I appreciate any input that you can offer. I just don't know where to go with this. I hate to invest $300 dollars and have problems again.

I'll keep an eye on your post. Sorry I'm no help, I've tried many of the sprayers you've named and have had troble w/ them all. B&D was my favorite b'cuz it was reletively inexpensive (so I could have 3, one for fungacides, one for herbicides and one for pests)and very portable. They are long gone. ~bb

Yes!!!! I'll never understand why B&D stopped making those sprayers. When I checked last year, they came out with a "supposed replacement" which wasn't anything like the old one. I would have thought they had alot of people like us buying them! It really was a good, little sprayer for the money.

I have been using the 4 gallon battery operated EZ Sprayer that Rosemania used to sell before Hudson. It is truly a work saver! I often regret waiting so long to get a battery sprayer. I also have several three gallon battery sprayers,too - ready for smaller jobs. Last year, Lowes sold the one gallon sprayers for $9! Then, they didn't stock them any more. I have no idea why. Anyway, they are a good backup when you only have a smaller area to spray.

drawing a circuit diagram for the original and the new circuits would be a first step in figuring out what could be wrong. Other things - measuring the current draw for the original vs the new, checking for breaks in the solder, polarity.

i have an 18 L backpack sprayer and am 61 and not all that fit - i find if i sit it on a table outside and fill it with water (and roundup) i can wriggle into the arm bands and then use my shoulders to lift - and off i go - i have to pump it and it is easy to use. must have sprayed about 30 lots of 18 L in the past 2 weeks as growth is rampant here with the rain - just noticed some new weeds appearing in between my roses so will go off and do another lot. it IS heavy but i can spray for about an hour as the sprayer is small and only sprays a circle of about 5 cm diameter. it was not a cheap sprayer. i could not lift it when full but let the table hold it while i wriggle into the shoulder straps and it is surprising what an "old person" like me can lift when supported by the shoulders - i really hardly notice it i would find a trolley - or ride-on mower as i have - version much less easy to use unless i wanted to spray a large volume at a time - such as spraying my trees - as one could not duck in and out among the bushes. btw, never have any round up probs with any of my plants - unless i squirt one in error and cant be bothered to take off the backpack and wash it clean with water - never get drift etc as others talk about. just clearing away now all trhe brown dead weeds from around mt rose bed at the back - some sprayed right up to roses - must be my very directional sprayer. love your garden rose dreamer!!

I have 2 from Rosemania that I have not had any trouble with - so far. One is the small Duromax (Flo Pro) 1.3 gallon sprayer... http://rosemania.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/product490.html sells for $89.95. I like it because it has a shoulder strap and I can zip around and quickly spray all of my roses in about 30 minutes.
The other one is the Spotshot 7 gallon sprayer that you already mentioned earlier.... http://rosemania.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/product93.html
I have not had any problems with it either. But it IS rather pricey - $400. It is harder for me to maneuver around the garden when it is full - even though it has wheels. I mainly use it to apply the Bayer All-in-One soil drench. It makes applying that so much easier. I use it without the spray nozzle.

I bought a B&D one gallon this Spring. It has a rechargeable battery and it works great. Lowes had them for about $40.

Sorry!!! I forgot to mention that Rosemania's Duromax is backordered... I think Rob told me it would be at least a month or so before he gets any in. My roses can't wait that long. Plus, I am not sure that I would like a l or l.3 gallon size as I would need to refill it 2 or 3 times. I have some really huge floribundas and David Austins that take alot of spray. Not to mention my climber, New Dawn. We know how she likes to travel! :-)

Besides the price, the Spotshot 7 gallon would be a bit more than I need. The EZ Sprayer 4 gallon size was perfect for me. I saw that Hudson makes one similiar to the EZ Sprayer; but, I am now a bit paranoid and concerned where theirs was made. I think I would probably be happier with something similiar to the Rocket or Peco... just don't know which is more reliable.

I went through several power sprayers and finally put together my own.

You can get from a farm supply store a sprayer and tank that is designed to fit on a four wheeler or lawn tractor. The smallest tank size I found is ten gallons, but it works well with as little as two gallons in the tank.

The sprayer cost about $120 or on sale in the fall for about $100 as a closeout. I mounted mine on a garden wagon that cost $60 and the small deep cycle battery cost another $25. If you don't have a battery charger, you will have to buy one of those also.

If you put one of these together you will need or have access to moderate handyman skills to handle mounting the tank and battery in the wagon after assembling the wagon.

I am happy with mine, but I would pay up for a brass wand instead of the plastic if I did it again.
