Re sprayer....knapsack versions (approx 15L) with diaphragm pump for $150 to $200 or larger litreage versions mountable on rider mower, trolley or wheelbarrow upwards from $200.With a garden like that surely it justifies spending a bit on a good one?

I agree what a beautiful garden Rosedreamer, you must work very hard and long keeping it that way.
Everything so lush, greeen and healthy looking including the Lavender a favourite of mine.
I do not have any more advice to offer than Thrip does up top,
My back neighour has one of those 15lt ones and some type of pump tank one as well.
Though he runs a business so can justify the cost, he uses it for weed killers.
My hubby reckons those 15lts ones are a bit heavy, probably ok if you are young and Male ?
I cant even manage the 6lt ones any more so hubby made me a trolley so I can wheel it around works a treat.
I wont let him touch my Roses you see and he understands that
My advice is buy something that wont ruin your body as you pay for it in your old age, hang the expense.

I'm young and male(well 34 is young) Misty but I no also what a littoral pain in the back those knapsacks are.I've worked on several farms/nurseries where I've had to use them and would/will never choose to buy one for myself. I often wonder how one would fare if you were to fall over while wearing one of these and the tank burst open on a rock/cement path etc.Tipping fifteen litres of nasty systemics over your back would make you very unhealthy/dead indeed.
Anyway, a company called Selecta has some great little sprayers mounted on wheels.Type in "Trolleypak MK11" and do a search and you'll find links which will show a 25L trolley mounted version that looks good.At least it gives you an idea.

Hi Thrip Yes sounds like you are Young and Male, what a lovely age, but when you are nearly twice that many years you have to look for anything that make life or I should say work easier.

That was a very interesting website and I have added the Link, so that Rosedreamer and our other members can see it, a niffy model that 25lt trolley one, a marvelous idea for a big garden I only have 38 roses and I sprayed them yesterday with this organic recipe for PM and I used 5lts so that 25lt one would be ideal for people who have lots more...Cheers..MM.

I have more than 500 roses and we have a set-up made by my hubby... a yard cart with a spray unit in driven by a car battery...it works exceptionally well, especially when HE does the spraying! When fully laden there's no way I can push it up hill... I might add though, we only do a fungal spray - no pesticides. We have a nicely balanced ecology working for us... birds, ladybirds, predatory wasps, skinks etc = no aphids on roses.

I have exactly the same type of thing and have exactly the same problem (with hills/drains etc).I reckon one of those quad bike/rider mower mounted jobs would be just the ticket.

i have an 18 L backpack sprayer and am 61 and not all that fit - i find if i sit it on a table outside and fill it with water (and roundup) i can wriggle into the arm bands and then use my shoulders to lift - and off i go - i have to pump it and it is easy to use.

must have sprayed about 30 lots of 18 L in the past 2 weeks as growth is rampant here with the rain - just noticed some new weeds appearing in between my roses so will go off and do another lot.

it IS heavy but i can spray for about an hour as the sprayer is small and only sprays a circle of about 5 cm diameter. it was not a cheap sprayer. i could not lift it when full but let the table hold it while i wriggle into the shoulder straps and it is surprising what an "old person" like me can lift when supported by the shoulders - i really hardly notice it

i would find a trolley - or ride-on mower as i have - version much less easy to use unless i wanted to spray a large volume at a time - such as spraying my trees - as one could not duck in and out among the bushes.

btw, never have any round up probs with any of my plants - unless i squirt one in error and cant be bothered to take off the backpack and wash it clean with water - never get drift etc as others talk about. just clearing away now all trhe brown dead weeds from around mt rose bed at the back - some sprayed right up to roses - must be my very directional sprayer.

After reading this question last week I looked into the cost,and products.I have been onto my hubby for a long time to make me a trolley to carry knapsack,[but he's a bit busy] ,as it is heavy esp when you have a 'crook' back.
I was unaware there was even such a product.
Although they are 'quite dear' [20ltr size]$179, my son said to me 'mum think of the money you will save from not having to visit the chiropractor, he has a valid point.
So i am going to 'invest'.
