Landscape fabric with river rock is great the first year. It's the following years that drive you crazy. Investing in Roundup and a paint brush would be optimum.

ok but what about edging? a paint brush for the rocks?

I have been satisfied with a plastic from Loews. For some reason Home Depot did not carry it. It was marked "contractor". Al

ok was the plastic rounded where u didnt have to dig a ditch and just pounded pegs and rolled the landscape into it at the edges or was it the stuff you had to dig out an area for 1st?

so any suggestions at all...............

Hi starjr. I wonder if you are not getting many responses here because I think a lot of regular posters do not use plastic edging - I think we have a lot of trench-edgers here, lol.

Star, last year I started using a black plastic/rubber roll edging similar to that shown in this photo link. I bury mine more though because I don't like the look of it. It helps a great deal when mowing the lawn and keeping weeds from taking over. I found it relatively easy to install. Using a narrow shovel I dug the edge of the bed to several inches deep then set the edging in place, replacing the soil a few inches at a time as I arranged the edging, until it was all done. ~JoAnn

Star, I use the black plastic from Lowe's that's about 5" high with a rolled edge on top. It's the kind you dig a trench for and place all of it except the rolled top edge into the trench and stake it (the stakes come separately). I like it because it's relatively cheap, it works, and all you see is the rolled black edge, which your plant leaves will eventually hide anyway.
