How to grow roses in a pot and overwinter them?

Since my only good facing east site is on the patio, I thought I might try growing a rose in a big pot. Here are my questions:

1 - Do I just use potting soil and rose fertilizer? I always put stones on the bottom for better drainage.

2 - Are tea roses or smaller floribundas better for living in a pot? (I prefer floribundas)

3 - What do I do with them over winter? My garage gets pretty darn cold but I guess not as freezing as being out in the snow. Do they need much water? Do I cut them back?

Thanks,
