Just beginning, will it be ready next spring?

I started "collecting" things around the end of June and already have a 33 gallon container filled. Should be getting some bigger composting bins set up soon, but I'm still trying to figure out what to construct them with that will be cheap.

I hope to do hot composting this winter. It's not realistic for me to take all my browns and chop them into small bits, so I have a lot of browns (cardboard, paper, small tree limbs and twigs) in my compost. I would really like to have it all ready by next spring for ammending my soil.

What are the chances I can have compost ready by next spring if I'm trying to hot compost in the winter of northern New England without chopping everything up into small bits beforehand?

Also, any tips of what to use for a bigger composting bin that would help keep the composting hot this winter? Wood painted black on the outside? Any ideas?

Thank you!
