Verdict on my Silver Cloud maple

So a year ago (or was it two?) I posted a message in here about a Silver Cloud maple sapling that had been girdled about 8 inches up from the ground over the winter by some deer. It leafed out in spring, then lost all its leaves, and began growing branches from the bottom stump of the tree. I tried a few different methods of propagating before I found out that it is sort of impossible without seeds. Which I don't have.

So here is my question: what should I do with this tree now? It is growing very healthly as a clump form now, but 1) will this 8 inch long stump eventually have problems, like disease, etc.? Will the tree have a shorter lifespan? and 2)It seems like such a shame to have a clump form silver cloud, when it is prized for its upright form and straight, attractive trunk.

Maybe I should just start over with a new one(with a fence in place around it!); but I hate to destroy a healthy tree.
