Comments (33)OHHHHH! Why didn't you say it was an old Cub Cadet from the start. That makes all the difference, what with their crazy sizing they did in the old days it would definitely take a company like www.smalltires.com to find a comparable small tire. Now that I know that I apologize from the bottom of my heart, I truly think your posting on behalf of www.smalltires.com will help innumerable people here, as well as the rest of the world. I will be sure to check out www.smalltires.com next time I need to find small tires not only for my old Cub Cadets, but other old tractors as well. Does www.smalltires.com also carry tires for old John Deeres? I have been looking everywhere for a set of those. I am sure if they exist www.smalltires.com will have them and will ship them quickly, as that is www.smalltires.com's way of doing business. Once again I apologize for ever thinking you worked for www.smalltires.com or would financially gain by spamming for www.smalltires.com....See MoreAdvice on which tractor, x300, Regent or LA deere series?
Comments (22)Varmint, Thanks on all your feedback, and that of others. I took delivery today of my new tractor. I put it right to work pulling my dump cart full of brush, and my yard sweeper. Maybe I should change my handle to happinessisanewtractor. Observations: This tractor is very comforable. the ergonomics of the Regent are very good. The controls are well laid out and very intuitive. The 18HP Kohler Courage engine is plenty strong, and very reasonable in noise level. Especially compared to my old tractor's 8hp Briggs. The transmission is very smooth (smoother than the x300 I drove, probably how it's belt drive is designed), and pulled my sweeper like it was'nt even there. The ride accross my bumpy yard is just that, bumpy. I'm going to check the tire pressure again, and try lowering it to improve the ride a little. Also, the steering is very precise, but that also lends itself to jolting out of my hands on bumps if I'm not careful. Again tire pressure may help that. I suspect the same would be true on almost any "lawn tractor". Essentially it means I have to keep my speed down in the areas that are bumpy. My old tractor's seating position was closer to the ground, so I may be perceiving that I'm going slower on the new Regent than I actually am. Perhaps a heavier Garden Tractor, ie: a Conquest or x500 might traverse the lumpy terrain more smoothly, but I would not want to give up the manuverability of the Regent, which is fantastic. I have not mowed yet, but did engage the mower. Take note, this thing is powerful, it shot several pine cones like a rocket. The discharge is very strong, which I hope will reduce clumping of my grass clippings. Overall I feel that I made a good choice for my needs. I have to say that Simplicity orange is just as nice looking as Deere Green. I'm looking forward to mowing season & will let you know how it performs....See MoreNew Deere X300
Comments (39)To jump my RIO, I located the polarized plug at the reverse pedal switch which has two wires in it. The connections are the 1/4" solderless connectors. I made a 1.5" wire with a male 1/4" connector on each end and plugged that into the polarized connectors slots (jumping it), applied elect grease and then wrapped it with good tape to keep it clean. The switch is normally closed. Your going to get a lot of flack for doing this- so prepare yourself. :) I have to do way too much backing up to worry about that switch and have done fine for 20 years without one. Kids are grown and women don't follow me around anymore- so I feel it's safe. :))...See MoreJohn Deere at Lowes
Comments (96)First off they don't all have K46 transmissions, the D160 and D170 do. I just bought a D140 from a dealer and asked that question. It has the K40. Again do your homework and you'll find the answers. I bagged leaves today for the first test of the D140. Worked great but I can't say I'm totally pleased with the bagger design but it does function. It's the way the bags are mounted and the top cover. Anyway, It is a real JD but built as a homeowner version, not commercial duty. The problems arise when you try to pull heavy loads or do a lot of uphill mowing. The tranny can't handle that. But If your cutting grass on a "normal" lawn they should last a long time. I bought from the dealer because I would rather give him the business than a large chain and he will gladly do any warranty work I may require. He also matched the price of Lowes with the 5% discount for using a CC. I like my JD dealer and have purchased from him in the past. Yeah I'd rather have the 300, 500 or 700 series but I'm only cutting grass and bagging leaves. I have ATV's and a JD 2320 for heavier work....See Moregrass1950
