I planted some 1-2 ft Lombardy Poplar trees last spring. The least healthy one did not grow much and died last fall, right after it shed all of its leaves. It looked like the very bottom of the stem rot and fell (it did not look like it was snapped off by accident). There was none of any tree element remaining on the ground. Now, there is a tree growing at the same spot. It looks a little like lombardy poplar, yet the shapes of the leaves are different. The major stems of the surviving lombardy poplar are all light grey in color, but the new tree does not have grey color. Each tree act and looks a little differently, I really have a hard time to compare them. Even on the same tree, young and old leaves don't look the same. Hopefully, the lombardy poplar I thought dead is the one now growing??? Thanks
