AV fertilizing

Before knowing this forum, once a month I gave my AVs a dose of a few NPK pellets burried into the soil and watered as usual. The AVs gave me a lot of blooms and suckers too.

But since joining this forum, I became so aware of "fertilizing" that I didn't give my AVs any fertilizer at all!!!

I read in this forum that most of you would add soluble fertilizer in the water for your AVs to suck up since you water them from the bottom or wick-watering them. I also read that some of you folliage-feed the AVs. However, I have never read anywhere that you can add fertilizer pellets directly into the soil like I did.

Then I read from "Rachel's reflection" that "if it ain't broken, don't fix it".

All of this "reading" have left me wondering what kind of fertilizer and what method of application is best for AVs as well as how often AVs need fertilizing.

Could someone please help me so that I can help my AVs.

Thank you.
