I'm beginning to suspect iVillage of being not nice at all.

Oh it's easy. Anything you post, pics, personal info, whatever, is their property to use any way they want.

Yeah, it's...interesting, to say the least. It really doesn't seem like Houzz and these garden forums are a great fit. And things seem to be getting worse. I hope they have some incentive to improve things, and ultimately to keep the garden forums alive. The changes that have been made seem to suggest otherwise. Do any of us actually patronize Houzz, beyond forum usage? I know I don't. In fact, if it weren't for the banner at the top of this page currently announcing a "rug sale," I'd have no idea what they sell, or even that they sold anything. Nor would I care. If you visited my home, you'd find that most of my furnishings are purely functional practical stuff, and I'm ok with that. Any "design" or "style" within my home is entirely accidental, LOL. (The fact that there even exists a forum devoted to "Design Dilemmas" perplexes me to no end; the only reason I know about it is that it keeps popping up and forcing me to de-select it in order to post in a gardening forum. Argh). My garden, on the other hand...now THAT's where I spend my money, time, and effort. And it's entirely for myself, not for "curb appeal" or for whatever other concern the recommended forums on this site keep promoting. Anyway, all grumbles aside, my real concern is that if we're all (from Houzz's perspective) a bunch of non-profit-generating dead weight, why should they care about keeping us happy? I do miss Gardenweb. Kinda like how I miss actual garden-related programming on HGTV. Hopefully these forums aren't headed for the same fate.

@farmerduck, it’s frustrating to see knock outs flourishing and giving a show in the neighborhood while my roses look all small covered in yellow plastics, I wonder what people think lol. Do you grow antique roses in your garden? I am thinking in transitioning from hybrid teas to old garden roses, maybe they will do better here...

Unless your doctor has told you it is carpel tunnel it may be other things. I have a tendon in my wrist that ruptured on my right wrist. It forms a knot ever so often and can cause tingling etc. My left hand has a pinched nerve somewhere in my should that causes the three outside fingers to have the same problems. I do have carpel tunnel problems on the other finger and thumb on that hand. I had to stop gardening because of the pain in both hands. Talk to a hand surgeon to see what they suggest as it is one of those you can do it now while it is not a major problem or wait in pain until you have even worse problems.

Well, here it's raining. In the 40s tomorrow, then down to 17 tomorrow night, so I'm assuming it'll be slick. This was a couple of years ago, we can pile up some pretty impressive snow but we have experience and equipment, so we're good at moving snow and getting around in it. That's our old truck, a full size Chevy Silverado with a "crew" cab. The problem with putting oil on the weatherstripping of the doors is that if you then rub against it while getting in or out, you get oily spots on your clothes. (yeah, ask me how I know) WD 40 and PAM both work too, but can degrade the rubber weather stripping. Rubber conditioner is really best if you want to treat the rubber weather stripping. My problem is that water gets into the locks themselves and then I'm heating my key, or using Lock-Ease. The Enclave does have heated seats, and I have a garage, so I can start the car, turn on the seats, go inside and have a cup of coffee and then leave after the car warms up nicely. It also has all wheel drive to get me though most of the navigable stuff and the old farm truck is 4 wheel drive, of course so we're pretty prepared, usually. So we're enjoying the break, but it'll only last until tomorrow, then it's back to normal Michigan winter, it looks like the 20s in the day and single digits at night for another month or so. Annie

Hi all,

I would like to address the possibility of iVillage selling our e-mail addresses. It is my understanding that we can tell iVillage not to do so by Opting Out. Below is a link to the houseplant conversations forum that I started. I highly recommend that you link to that site and put your e-mail address on the Opt Out List.

I was pretty upset about the new policy, so I went on the Winter Sowing forum and asked Trudi, who owns the copyright to the Winter Sowing concept and who owns the Winter Sowing website, what she thought of this. These are excerpts from her response:
