Molineux cane flopping

katefisher

Our rose Molineux was new last year bare root from DA. It did well last year and came back this spring very nicely. Has been blooming and putting on lots of growth.

I noticed a few days ago that a new cane heavy with new foliage and buds suddenly started flopping. It does not seem damaged at all. More that the growth is more vigorous than the cane can support.

I don't have a problem with cutting it off if necessary. Or will it become stronger if I stake it? I will put a support under it if the general consensus is that within a reasonable amount of time the cane will become self supporting. Otherwise its time for a haircut.

Thank you.

Kate
