Could be apple blossoms. Do they have a nice fragrance?

Unlike most other maples, the A. negundo is fully dioecious so there are "male" and "female" trees. You have a male so it does not make seeds. The leaf form can vary in different ways from tree to tree and there are several varieties. The leaves can be anywhere between 6 and 15 inches long and can have 3 to 7 leaflets sometimes slightly lobed or coarsely toothed.

Hi Mary. A fellow 'sconnie, Norway spruce are among my very favorite species, and yes, yours look pretty good. If you or someone you know has a pole saw, it is amazing how much of an improvement in appearance can be made by an hour or two of work taking off dead branches within reach of the tool. It's easy and satisfying work with a great payoff. Other than that, about the only possible thing that could matter to these trees at this point would be to watch for dry conditions. As you state yourself to be in zone 4, methinks you are somewhere in the northern part of our state, which is still sadly missing nearly every storm system that comes through. But........keep in mind....this may not be necessary at all and if you do decide to water these trees, you really need to water a very large area under and around them. i dont understand the comment above ... i figured just camera trick in blinding sun .. but note the lawn is droughted out ... i have a lot of leaf damage this year .. with noah like rains early in the season ... and then 2 weeks of sinai like drought ... i am not really concerned.. in august.. with leaf problems ... a really fast growing tree ... but doesnt have a lot of the problems that trees advert'd as such ... i am not much impressed with the flower show.. my 3 foot mail order sticks are going over 30 feet tall.. in ten years ... i usually dont even notice them.. until i see yellow petals in the lawn i am mowing.. lol .. but the old farts who visit and notice them.. all seem to remember them as huge gloriously flowering trees... back when they were young fart ... lol ken
