hot coffee grounds

i'm sure many people will think this is worrying too much. but i think it's worth mentioning:

i've been reading about coffee grounds for compost, and i have gotten some from starbucks a few times. i was concerned about the dioxins in the plastic bag or container that are released when the hot grounds are thrown in. so i looked on the internet and found out from John's Hopkins' website that that info, circulating last year and attributed to them, was a hoax. plastic doesn't even produce dioxin. the PhD did, tho, say that phthalates will be produced when heat is in contact with many plastics. and these compounds are not good either.

i don't know if anything happens to them in the composting process that renders them harmless. but it's something to think about when collecting grounds for your compost. i leave a stainless steel pail at my local coffee shop and they fill it for me. the gallon a day i get isn't that much, but i don't want to go the plastic route.
