Awesome Chamblee's and Roses Unlimited orders...

I wanted to post a positive thread about my mail order roses.

Today I received my Chamblee's order. All are own root. They arrived well packed, healthy, leafed out and some with buds. All were $8.95 each. Nice.

I was also very satisfied with my mail orders this year. The four own roots from R.U. were all in bloom, and very nice plants. Rouge Royale, Louise Clements, Rosarium Utersen, and Polka. The three bare roots I received from Edmunds were very large and are currently doing very well. Distant Drums, SdlM, and Honey Dijon. The three I ordered from David Austin are not here yet, and are a month overdue!

Very satisfied with Roses Unlimited. I received Big Ben, Blue River, Headliner, Natasha Monet, Fragrant Plum, Lanvin.

Mindy I'm sad I didn't get to go. I probably would have grabbed a few more though, with no plan for them. It's for the best I didn't get to make it over there. lol Super healthy plants! *edit When do you ever see all these things on one rose? It sounds like a winner already. This week I received 6 roses from HCR and they were perfect fitting snuggly in the box to avoid movement. That was also my experience with Burling. I received some crushed ones from Chamblees when I ordered from them 2016. ARE does pack each in its own cardboard section to prevent movement as they are so large and heavy. My Austin's were bareroot, so just in a bag. Did you not want to share the source Deborah? I totally understand as I don't like to trash any of these wonderful places. Now that I have more experience, I care less if they are crushed or even broken and more about the size of rootball. I know with a well-developed root system they'll race forward with top-growth regardless! : )) Just my experience.

Some bouquets of fragrant roses bought from Roses Unlimited. My all-time favorites from RU are: Sonia Rykiel (a dozen blooms per flush in 1st year as own-root), Versigny (the scent is worth buying), Poseidon (going to frost with 30+ buds), Summer Sun (compact & small for a Kordes rose), Savannah (non-stop blooming), Pink Peace (great for the vase), Sweet Mademoiselle and Firefighter (both last 5 days in the vase), Betty White, Twilight Zone, About Face, Liv Tyler, and many Austins that RU sold before 2021. Below upper pink is Sonia Rykiel, dark red is the Dark Lady (from RU): Below dark red is Munstead Wood, and and orange About Face, red is Firefighter. Below orange is America, light pinks are Gene Boerner (thornless), and blue is Poseidon. Big red is Peter Mayle (survives 5+ years in my zone 5a winter): Below yellows are Moonlight Romantica (smells just as good as Golden Cel). Upper light pinks are Princess Charlene de Monaco (now 10' x 3') needs space. Blue is Poseidon lasts 5 days. Below deep oranges are Sweet Mademoiselle, light left pink is Savannah, and reds are the Dark Lady (going into Nov. frost with many buds): Below bouquet is picked Oct. 29, 2023 before frost. Red is Veteran's Honor. Pink is Radio Times, white is Bolero, dark pink is Dee-lish, and dark red is the Dark Lady. All are from Roses Unlimited. Below large dark pink is Peter Mayle (eucalytus rose scent, so unique), light pinks are Evelyn, deep pink is Comte de Chambord, gaudy orange is Solitude (worth having for hot summer). Liv Tyler (right deep pink) never ball like Sweet Mademoiselle, Liv Tyler gives twice more blooms than Sweet M. Left dark pink is Pink Peace (worth buying with its buttercream frosting scent). Right light pink is Frederic Mistral (petals get spoiled often in rainy climate, worse than Betty White) Below was Liv Tyler in my garden at above 90 F, it's best for hot climate.

I'd say I had excellent fortune in obtaining the available varieties I desired. The last time I ordered from RU (which was 2017 irrc- I'm too young to forget, but I do!) and only Florence Delattre and Sutter's Gold were unavailable; I had to cut my list down a touch but I ordered/received: Betty Prior Charlotte Armstrong Circus Crimson Glory Francis Meilland Madame Anisette CA and CG died unceremoniously their first winter despite growing well over the summer. Circus has dwindled to a sad little twig and will be potted or pitched spring '21. FM is a two cane wonder and perhaps still settling in; I'm not confident in him. BP is around 2.5' currently and is in a very exposed, roadside northerly spot. MA has been a hardy, disease resistant, decently blooming plant pushing 3.5'+ tall and maybe 2-2.5' wide. She is the only definitive success from these modern roses. I've been meaning to email RU for some varieties I've been looking at. The process is so much easier and more pleasant than I imagine it will be (anxious fellow here). Very friendly and knowledgeable. With their top quality, own-root plants, I sort of view RU as the modern rose counter-part to ARE and are a valuable resource. Steven

Chamblee is great I ordered $200 of roses this year. The ones I ordered last year did great. Hawkeye Belle is a great one I could not believe how big it grew so give it enough room. Belinda's dream was a really good one also.

ARTEMIS-How much did you pay for the shipping for your order from chamblees?I never ordered from them and would like to.I have ordered from RU three years in a row ,but still was pleasantly surprised by the latest shipment.Every one of them came with a bud and /or bloom.Mike the Louise Clements (own root from RU ) along with Mme paul Massad,Penny lane and Jardins de bagaitelle aren't showing any signs of life yet inspite of winterising.Iam hoping they are sleeping longer.You might want to find a protected spot for Louise Clements just in case it isn't hardy for your zone.

Mike, I received my DA order 3 weeks ago, and the bare roots are already sprouting. I wonder why the hold up with your order?
