Ornamental Cherry that won't stand up!!!

I recently purchased a Yoshino cherry tree from my local plant store. It is already about 10 feet tall and the trunk is about 1 inch in diameter. The problem is that if it gets any wind at all it tips over. I tried staking it with one stake about 6 inches from the trunk with enough room to move a little and the first storm the stake bent in half and the tree fell over. There's been no root ball damage that I can see but the tree will not stand up on its own at all after that storm. My question is, is it a goner, or should I continue to stake it and hope it strengthens up over time? I currently have it staked with three metal poles but I have to keep the string pretty tight just to keep it upright. I was hoping to loosen them up over time but I have no experience with this problem and am not sure if I'm fixing it or making it worse at this point. Please help!!!
