Need 'limbing up' advice Ornamental Crab

This will be my 1st try at limbing up a tree. This Thunderchild Crab is approx 7-10 yrs old. I want to raise the canopy to overhead and encourage it''s columnar growth. I've removed most of the suckers and waterspouts and I'm thinking I need to remove the far L reaching branch, and the far RT reaching branch to start.

The far right branch is of good size, maybe 10-12 in diameter.

My question: Is it ok to take a branch of this size? It will be necessary so the canopy will start overhead.

This will leave about 3 good size branches that seem like the right ones to leave when I consider tree form only.

Is this a good place to start for this year?

I can post closeups if needed.

Any input appreciated....
