Use of biological or non-plastic roses?

This is a rose bush in my backyard. The petals drop completely within 24 to 48 hours after the roses bloom. All the roses on the bush do this.

Which rose? My Graham Thomas does this, but only after fully open. Don't know if it's normal, but it sure makes a mess.

Is it getting enough water?

Assuming it is getting enough water, then: some roses do this. It is sometimes called "self cleaning". The Austin rose 'Heritage', for example, always did this in my yard. The flowers lasted just a few hours after opening; dry heat was not what it liked.

The advantage of a "self cleaning" rose is apparent in cool, damp summer climates, such as the UK. There, if the petals do not drop, they can easily form a fuzzy mass of putrescent grey fungus.

So the moral of the story is: there is a rose for every climate, and certain features that are desirable in one climate are not desirable in another climate or, even in another garden in the same climate. Some people like the look of petals scattered everywhere, while others do not.

Do you know which variety of rose it is?

It's a wonderful thing! I wish every rose I have did it.
(Come to think of it, most do.)
