what is your favorite pink flowering crabapple? Help!
Comments (7)Like orchard apples these vary in suitability by region, where you are will affect which are good candidates. One of the wholesale nurseries making multiple new introductions of these (including a whole series of dwarf ones) is Lake County in Perry, Ohio. You might want to click open the New Plants part of their web site and have a look at what they are promoting, then check retail sources for any that appeal. You may have to mail order if something has not become prevalent at local outlets....See MoreWhat is your favorite fragrant plant or flower ?
Comments (33)Interesting photos/tree, and very tropical looking too. For scent, almost everyone loves lilac but when I think of scent I think more of summer blooming plants which I can enjoy on warm summer nights sitting outside. For that I love Flowering Tabacco (nicotiana syvestris) easy to grow from seed though quite huge (3 to 5 feet high). I also love madagascar jasmine (Stephanotis floribunda) which I have as a vine growing on the deck and take indoors as a houseplant for winter. I just realized this year that Petunias also have a nice fragrance, if grown in quantity. This year I bought a gardenia which seems a bit difficult to grow (loses leaves, drops flower buds) the blossoms are very fragrant though I have to say it's nice but not my favorite fragrance (under the heading to each his own)....See MoreWhat is your favorite fragrant plant?
Comments (57)I love, LOVE! Copper Canyon Daisies! I can be weeding in a bed close to them and get the scent wafting over me and I am like one of those cats with catnip! I want to just WALLOW in it! LOL Also love lantana, altho it doesn't affect me the same way. The Banana shrub is growing and doing very well in a yard in Victoria, Texas. I have permission to go there to take some cuttings in that garden this week, and that is one plant that is on my list to snip. It is growing in regular old alkaline clay soil, watered daily with regular old city water, with a ph up to THERE! Amazing! This is a good thread. Thanks for bumping it up. Comments (34)Paul, I hope you see this response because if anyone would know the answer to my question below, you would. Fragrant Cloud, aka Duftwolke, (I didn't know that, but looked it up after reading your post), is listed as ADR, which it reportedly won back in 1964. Has it been removed from the list of ADR winners since then? Were the requirements to win ADR back then less stringent than they presently are? Fragrant Cloud, although a great rose, is a black spotter and is winter tender. I say, babying FC does pay great dividends because of its vigorous growth, and great, fragrant flower when sprayed and winter protected, but how could it have won ADR in 1964, and still be an ADR winner today, if it still is?
