E Pupurea isn't dependent on stratification taking into account the freshness of the seed and how it's been stored, but the moist chill can improve germination. One reliable suggestion is to sow, if no germination in 3-4 weeks, move to 40F for 2-4 weeks then bring back to warm. You may have to deviate from your large planter, but why not (for the sake of saving time) assume they will benefit from a brief moist chill, sow in something like a 4" pot, wrap in saran and put that into your refrigerator for a couple of weeks, then place outside.

@Vladimir - Star Ruby was created by irradiating a Henderson GF. RUBY RED WAS A NATURALLY OCCURRING SPORT OF PINK GRAPEFRUIT. Many Red grapefruit varieties lose color the longer they hang on the tree late in season. The goal is to find varieties that are redder/sweeter and hold their color. Technically any man made hybrid or cross is a "GMO", I think people make too big a deal over it. Nobody has died yet or gotten sick yet from eating Star Ruby GF.

STAR Ruby red Grapefruit. People interest in the "STAR Ruby red Grapefruit" may have hope. Very often its the rootstock its grafted to that causes an early demise. I know with kumquats that there are few root stocks that have long term compatibility with the Meiwa making for slow growing and dead trees. A grapefruit can be grown from seed and bud wood of the exact variety could be grafted to it. It might do real well. This applies from zone 10 down to zone 2.
