The best product for my use of these varmits is Milky Spore and it is safe to use. I used this product two years ago and no longer deal with June bugs, JB, or grubs in the soil. Before I had all of these guys all over yard and garden. I am not a salesman for this product but I am really impressed by it. One of the reasons I used it because I have three dachshunds and I am very careful what I use in the yard. (Even tho they barely go out in the yard unless they must!). And with Milky Spore it is good for 3-5 years. Milky Spore is not harmful to beneficial insects, birds, bees, pets or man. If it was the sawfly larva you would see wee green larva with a larger head than body on the leaves, aka bristly rose slug. I've controled them in the past with BTK as well as insecticidal soap. The BTK either worked or the simply curled up and died, but they looked about the same as the tentworm caterpillars did after ingesting the BTK, curled into a C shape.

Chili Thrips yep! they are horrible. Sometimes in the cooler months they can be very scarce and only show little damage, but once the weather heats up they are HORRIBLE and can cause MAJOR damage. Use something with Spinosad such as Monterey Insect Spray or Bonide Captain Jacks Dead Bug Brew. (Or the more expensive at first but cheaper if you use it very often Conserve). I find that spraying with Bonide the minute you see any damage (to the back of the leaves) helps keep you from getting a huge infestation. Keep a very close eye on the new delicate growth and if you see any signs of damage spray immediately. Otherwise I have also had good results with the Bayer 2 in one disease and pest control spray when I spray for BS. I only use this when I have an infestation of Chili Thrips which sometimes cannot be avoided no matter how much you try. They are devilish creatures. Good Luck!

Backrow, I'm not sure I would fertilize them except with compost or mulch and I would hope for the best. They might have another flush in them this Fall if they get a move on. So sad the yard guy did that. Maybe the fertilizer would be OK but it is a bit late.
