according to everything that i have read you can plant right in it and if you want to make sure that you don't have any problems with the plants you plant in there you can put a barrier of soil around the planting hole. just add about two inches of soil all around where you will be planting and it should be fine.

Pat Lanza came out with the book "Lasagna Gardening" many years ago and many people all over have used the techniques very successfully. Most everyone that has tried this has planted right away with no problem.

3 months ago I was seriously skeptical about doing this, but made a conscious decision to believe. I planted in stuff that was 3 weeks old and all I can say is "Yowza!"

I did use soil plugs, and I did cut the bottom layer of cardboard to connect the plug to the ground.

I will continue to plant in new lasagna.

I built my first lasagna bed this year. I placed it over the site of my veggie garden, where the plants just never did that well. I put down newspaper, then layers of leaves, grass, coffee grounds, a sprinkle of alfalfa meal, and composted manure. The first few layers sat for a couple of weeks before I had enough grass to finish everything off. I planted right in the new bed, and the composted manure fell into the hole while I was planting. I pulled the layers apart all the way to the newspaper. I then mulched over the top with chopped hay.

It has been a few weeks now, and everything is looking perfect! Everything is green and strong and healthy. The tomatoes and zukes are setting blossoms. Things never looked this healthy in the old bed, even with tilling in compost and manure, and adding Osmocote every season.

I'm going to build raised beds in the fall around the same spot, and then layer more stuff. That will get to sit over the winter. However, I will always feel confident planting in fresh layers after seeing how well this worked!
