Weeping cherry tree - two trees

I am below a novice on the tree scale. About 6 years ago we had a weeping cherry tree planted. The tree has gone crazy -- I am assuming b/c I was supposed to prune it but was never told that. In any event, about 4 feet up from the ground the tree split into two trees. Both "trunks" are of equal diameter. One is growing tall with white flowers and the other has the weeping branches with pink flowers. Needless to say it looks a bit odd. I don't think I should lop off either side as I may kill the tree. Also, the two "trunks" seperated at a V so it would leave half the tree empy. Any suggestions would be great. I can share a picture if you would like.
